Chapter 97 Being Stubborn
“Brendon, why are you calling me so late?” Chris had just gotten home and barely had a chance to take a sip of water before Brendon’s call came in.
“Where are you?” Brendon’s voice was heavy, and he didn’t sound too happy. Chris could probably guess why. “I’m at home.”Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
“I ran into Ranita when I left Boulderland Mansion. She wasn’t feeling well, so I took her to the hotel.” Chris kindly explained, “Don’t worry, I didn’t take advantage of her.”
“Who asked you to explain?” Brendon coldly retorted, “I divorced Ranita and have nothing to do with her anymore. It doesn’t matter who she’s with now.”
Chris chuckled lightly, “Then why did you call me?”
Brendon found himself unable to argue back.
“Want to come out for a drink?” Brendon forcefully changed the subject.
“No thanks,” Chris replied with another laugh. “I’m pretty tired tonight and want to rest early.”
After a pause, Chris added, “Ranita is in room 1988 at the Four Seasons Hotel if anything comes up!”
Chris hung up the phone and finally loosened his tie as he leaned back on the couch. He couldn’t help but mock himself for being such an obedient person.
Unable to get hold of Chris, Brendon ended up taking Caleb out instead!
Caleb looked very innocent, but as a dedicated subordinate, he had to help alleviate his boss’s concerns. He could only muster the courage and say, “Mr. Stuart, is there anything I can assist you with?”
Brendon glanced at him without saying anything; he simply tasted the red wine in his glass silently.
Caleb shut up altogether after that while Brendon drank two glasses before suddenly asking Caleb half-closed eyes, “Caleb, I feel terrible.”
“Why?” Caleb asked calmly.
“Because of Ranita!” Brendon couldn’t understand it. He had planned to remove Ranita from his life, but now he found himself… not wanting to let her go.
Brendon was conflicted and couldn’t figure it out.
“What did Miss Bowman do that upset you, Mr. Stuart?” Caleb thought for a moment. Ranita was always sensible in her actions, never making mistakes with the tasks she was given. In fact, Caleb really liked working with Ranita because of this.
“She’s done so much! She always makes me angry and argues with me! And she’s despicable too – she’s already dating another man even though she hasn’t finalized our divorce yet!” Brendon slammed his glass on the table. “She’s still technically married!”
Caleb was at loss for words.
Can he hear this?
Had Brendon had too much to drink? What if he sobered up and decided to move him to another country? Caleb really wanted to cover his ears for safety!
But Brendon continued, “Caleb, what does Ranita want anyway?”
Caleb dryly replied, “Mr. Stuart… I think Miss Bowman is still the same as before when it comes to work! And since Miss Bowman has divorced you and moved on, finding someone else shouldn’t be a problem!”
After speaking, Caleb received a death stare from Brendon.
“Mr. Stuart… have you had too much to drink? Should I take you back home so you can rest?” Caleb couldn’t handle it anymore; he swore that from now on he would turn off his phone at night and go straight to bed!
Brendon also felt bored and decided just to go home and sleep.
But he didn’t sleep well; all night long in a daze-like state trapped in dreams where all there was were Ranita’s delicate features shrouded by misty white foggy clouds.
At midnight, Brendon woke up abruptly and muttered a curse under his breath.
