NIRVANA
“How did you manage to convince her to come with you?”
I smirked at Knight. “I didn’t give her much of a choice.”
He smiled at me, tracing my cheek with the back of his finger. “You never ceased to amaze me, sweetheart.”
“They’re gonna be fine.”
“I know.” He kissed me on my nose. “Our visitors are going to be here soon. Come find me later.”
“Yeah. I’ll go find my best friend before she wrings her neck in the bathroom.”
He shook his head in amusement before he left. We stayed at the pack house for a while while trying to build and strengthen the parameters of the compound. Dane’s expertise in his job might be our advantage.
I found Kailin in her room, on the balcony, looking over the expansive vineyards. “How are you feeling? Still planning on murdering your mate?”
“He’s not my mate,” she said dismissively.
“Not officially, but he’s getting under your skin just right. In a good way.”
“I hate you right now.” She shoved a handful of chips into her mouth and chewed them messily.”
“Unlady-like, but you can feel the pull, can’t you?”
She seemed taken aback by my words but quickly recovered her composure and continued eating.
“You’re the only person who managed to convince me-”
“So that’s why you are here, for your payback.”
“No. I love you, and I don’t wanna see you getting hurt. You said it yourself. Mates always work and looked at him.” Knight and Dane just walked to the place where I first saw Knight on his bike. It was something I could never forget. He was the most handsome man I’d ever seen at that time, even until now.
Dane was not wearing his jacket anymore but still wore a body holster for his handguns. He must have left it downstairs, but man, he was handsome. He was almost as tall as Knight, a little beefy, and those biceps bulging in the sleeves of his crisp white shirt told us that he took care of himself.
“How about that area?” Knight pointed northwest while Dane was holding the land map.
“The assailant usually hides in a pretty dark and less visible area, like that one.” Knight pointed at the opposite. “Trees, logs, and a little darker. That’s expected. But we will keep the main gate looking less protected. Of course, they will divide, and some may attack first the back and then come in from the front.”
“So we still protect the main gate?”
“Yes. We will double the traps in the area I told you about. How about the cliff about?”
“Yes. He has planted bombs in there, but it should be manually detonated.”
“That’s not a problem. If you have a computer I can use, I can install my app, so while you are monitoring that area, you can see attackers and detonate the bomb.”
“That’s amazing,” Knight said impressively.
“You know who he reminds me of?” I elbowed Kailin. When she suddenly went silent, I didn’t know she’d been staring at him while Knight and Dane were engaged in a conversation.
I grinned like a Cheshire cat because I knew that feeling- been there, done that. The more I fought my feelings, the more I pulled like a magnet into Knight. She would experience the same thing if she kept fighting what was fated for her.
I elbowed her again. “He only reminds me of Hitman, but yummier and hotter with dark hair and blue eyes.”
“Shut up.”
At that moment, Dane heard her, looked up in our direction, and then they stared at each other. I stepped back and disappeared into her room, giggling.
“Where’s my sister?” McKaye met me upstairs.
“In her room. Don’t worry. She’s safe from Agent 47.” I smiled as I went downstairs, only to stop abruptly
My chest constricted. My face heated, and I left like burning deep inside as I watched my mate, my fiance, hugging another woman, a very attractive and sexy as hell woman. She looked like she was one of those underwear models. And then the woman’s hands remained on his arms as they smiled at one another.
I swallowed hard, feeling extreme jealousy. I thought a male werewolf had only an eye for his mate. I was wrong.
I dropped my gaze and planned for an exit, only to cut it short when I heard Knight calling my name.
“Nirvana.” He came to me.
“Yeah?” I replied in somewhat surprise.
“You okay.” He cupped my head, forcing me to look at him. “You feel hot.”NôvelDrama.Org © content.
“Not as hotter as your lady friend.”
He beamed at me before he kissed me on the lips with a loud smack. “Jealousy is a useless emotion between us. You’re the only woman I want. Anyway, I want you to meet Everlee Ross.”
The woman waved and smiled at me. She was gorgeous, especially when she smiled.
“Hi. I’ve been wanting to meet you.”
“Hello.” I forced out a smile.
All of a sudden, she came to hug me tight. “I’ve heard so much about you. And you’re more gorgeous than how I imagined.”
“Oh.” I patted her back awkwardly. I wished I could say the same thing, but I hadn’t heard anything about her until right now.
Then I saw her ring- her engagement ring. God, I was so stupid. My cheeks burned. “How did you know me?”
“Oh, Shadow. I’m Alpha Grady’s Beta. I know Alpha Califf way back before he found his mate. We grew up together, and we have history.” She looked somewhat ashamed when telling me those last words. “But then I met my mate, and it’s his half-brother.”
“What? Really?” Now it got more interesting. “Wow.”
“Alpha Knight.” The man walking in the living room caught my attention as he and Knight hugged brotherly.
“Babe, this is Vana,” Everlee said.
“Oh. The infamous Luna Nirvana.” He smiled. The man was tall and handsome as well. He looked older than Califf, but now I saw the resemblance. They almost had the same eye color.
“I wish it true. I don’t know what Shadow has told you about me, but it’s nice to meet you both.” I shook his hand.
“Calder Haynes. You might have met my uncle Kain.”
“Yeah, in Inverness.”
“Well, you must have heard his story.”
“He’s a shapeshifter. How about you?”
“Half-werewolf, half-human.”
“Well, I’m neither.” I couldn’t help but smile.
“Don’t sell yourself short because I’m not buying it. I sensed something in you when we shook hands.”
“You’re kidding.”
“He’s probably not, sweetheart. He’s a Pathfinder.”
Calder chuckled at Knight. “When you said it, you made it sound more interesting and a big deal.”
“What is a Pathfinder?”
“He can sense you when you’re lying, which makes a pathfinder a good liar, a deceiver. He can also be a good navigator, an enhanced stealth, and a great person to give advice.”
“Awesome. How many of you around? I wanna have one in our pack.”
“Just like you, sweetheart. A rare gem.”
“I heard about your gift,” Everlee said. I wanted to deny it, but she backed it up quickly. “You can trust us. Even Grady doesn’t know what we know, and we promised Cal and Shadow not to tell any living soul.”
“Well, what I have is literally a family curse.”
“A cool family curse.” Calder smiled. “And you have the power to save lives. Just believe in your purpose, Vana. You can make a huge difference in this world. Follow your heart to lead you in the right direction.”
When none of us could find a word to say something, he laughed. “That was my gift.”
“That was beautiful, Calder.”
