Chapter 104
Chapter 104
On the set of The Journey, Angeline turned all the dissatisfaction she had witnessed in the hospital into her motivation for filming.
She fought with a sharp sword in her hand while suspended in midair by wires under the direction of the stunt coordinator in the blazing sun.
Because of the troublesome multiple-layered traditional clothes she was wearing, she was covered in sweat after a while. The makeup artist had to follow her to constantly touch up her makeup.
However, Angeline never voiced a single complaint, which led Derek to look at her with admiration and approval.
“That’s enough. Let’s take a break.” In the end, the director had to call for them to stop. “We’re about to wrap up filming, so there’s no need to go all out.”
“Thank you, Mr. McKenna.” Angeline panted. It was only until she saw the props being put away at the set that she was willing to take off the heavy armor on her body to get some air.
“Excuse me, is Ms. Angeline Sorelle here?”
Just then, she noticed a courier standing at the entrance of the film set.
“That would be me.” Angeline frowned. “Can I help you?”
The courier took out a bouquet of brightly colored roses from the back seat of his motorcycle and handed it to her.
“Mr. Golding told me to deliver it to you.”
After saying that, the courier rode away on his motorcycle.
Angeline could only swallow the query she was going to utter. Then, as if something had suddenly dawned on her, bewilderment could be seen in her eyes.
Mr. Golding… Evander? Isn’t he being all lovey-dovey with his fiancée? Why would he send me flowers?
She had no choice but to carry the bouquet of roses to the lounge first. As she was heading there, many of the actresses from the film noticed it and exclaimed in awe.
“Wow! Who sent you these flowers, Angie? They’re so pretty!”
“I’m so envious, but it’s perfectly normal for someone like you to receive flowers, Angie.”
“I’ll try my best to be like you…”
Angeline blushed from the teasing and praises of the young girls, and a smile crept up her face.
She was no different from the majority of women who enjoyed receiving compliments.
After returning to the lounge, she specifically found a vase for the flowers, and while she was misting them, she unexpectedly found a card tucked inside.
When she opened the card, which still had a pleasant flowery scent to it, she found that it was vigorously scrawled with the following words: Apologies for being too impulsive last time.
Angeline was even more certain it was from Evander after reading it.
She pursed her lips as she felt something warm seep into her heart, taking away the frustrations and fatigue of the day.
Over the next few days, Angeline never visited Floretta in the hospital but chatted with her on WhatsApp.
On the day Floretta was discharged from the hospital, both Evander and Olivine came to pick her up. Although the little girl spent a long time scanning the entrance, there was no sign of the familiar figure.
Disappointed, she got into the car and returned to the Golding residence.
As soon as Francesca opened the door to welcome them, Floretta noticed a tiny mound of gifts stacked up in the living room.
“Congratulations on getting discharged from the hospital, Floretta.”
Olivine took her by the hand and led her to the gifts. She picked up a doll and said with a warm smile, “These are the toys I bought for you, and there are many more. See if there’s anything you like.”
Floretta looked at the pile of toys, and instead of showing any interest, she put on a look of disgust on her face.
“I’m no longer a three-year-old child, Ms. Sherrock. I’ve long stopped playing with these toys.”
Embarrassment was written all over Olivine’s face. Damn it! This brat is so hard to please.
“Watch your manners, Floretta,” Evander admonished in a low voice, his expression somewhat stern.
Floretta tilted her head and looked at him innocently. “But the kindergarten teacher taught us that children should be honest. If I don’t call her Ms. Sherrock, should I call her Mdm. Sherrock instead?”
Francesca chuckled under her breath when she heard that from where she stood at the side.
On the other hand, Olivine’s face turned red in anger. She forced out a stiff smile and uttered graciously, “It’s fine. It’s merely a form of address.”
You’ll be sorry, brat, when I marry into the Golding family!
Ding dong!
Just then, the doorbell rang. Francesca hurriedly ran over to open the door.
“Excuse me, is this Floretta’s home?” A pleasant female voice rang out.
Floretta turned to look at the visitor and broke into a joyful smile as she ran toward the woman with her arms wide open.
“What brings you here, Ms. Nancy? Did Angel tell you to come?”
“How are you so smart, Floretta?”
Nancy smiled and tapped the little girl’s nose before taking out a thermal food jar from behind her. “Your Angel got up early this morning to make you a nutritious meal and some pastries. Go and try them.”
Floretta’s eyes lit up. She ran to the kitchen with the food jar in her arms after letting out an exclamation of excitement.
Only after the little girl had left did Nancy rose to her feet. Her expression gradually became serious as she stared at Evander and Olivine standing behind him.
After giving him a nod, she said to Evander, “Mr. Golding, Angeline has been busy with filming recently, so she asked me to deliver it on her behalf.”
Evander looked at Floretta’s jubilant figure in the dining room and did not stop her. Instead, he approached Nancy, looked down at her, and asked, “She made it herself?”
“Yes. She’s been so busy filming these days that she doesn’t even have time to rest. If I hadn’t stopped her, she would’ve come to pick up Floretta,” Nancy said truthfully as she stretched out her hand and fanned the hot air in front of her eyes.
Evander was momentarily stunned when he heard that, and an incomprehensible emotion filled his dark eyes.
I assumed Angeline would be upset about what I’d said previously in the hospital. I didn’t expect that she didn’t care much about this and would still be deeply concerned about Floretta.
His expression gradually softened, and there was no longer any repulsion in his tone. “Thank you. I’ll get my assistant to send you back in a while.”
“No need for that. I came with my driver.” Nancy hurriedly waved her hand, flattered by his gesture. Before leaving, she stared intently at Evander and said solemnly, “I know I have no right to intervene, Mr. Golding, but I wish to say a few words for Angeline.”
“Go ahead.”
“I have been with Angeline for so many years, and I know her character very well. Under normal circumstances, she wouldn’t attend any social event I arranged for her with the producer or the boss, let alone hurt Floretta, whom she adores so much, to win you over. You truly misunderstood her this time.”
Hearing Nancy’s words, Evander furrowed his brows slightly. His heart instantly felt empty, as he realized he might have truly misunderstood something.
The assumption he had in his mind wavered once more.
Although I feel sorry for my daughter… was I truly too harsh on Angeline?
After Nancy left, Evander went to the dining room to see Floretta. Francesca helped her get a small bowl, and she clutched the spoon tightly as she slurped the oatmeal and ate the green vegetables she had always refused to eat in the past.
When Evander saw that, he curled his lips upward helplessly before walking up to Floretta.
The little girl snorted at him and held the bowl close to her chest, fearing that he would steal her food.
Evander sat down on the chair beside her, patted her head, and asked gently, “Do you like Angeline’s food so much, Floretta, that it can’t be compared to toys?” Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
“This is different.”
The look Floretta gave him was filled with seriousness as she explained word by word, “Toys are cold, but Angel’s food is prepared with love. Daddy, you can’t hate her anymore. I was the one who insisted on having the crab. It’s not that she intentionally wanted to harm me. If you bully her again, I’ll pack my bags and move into her house!”
Evander was rendered speechless, feeling slightly taken aback.
He had never imagined his daughter to say such things.
Thinking back to the anxious and distressed look on Angeline’s face when Floretta got into a dangerous situation, Evander fell silent for a long time.
Olivine overheard the conversation between the father and daughter in the dining room from outside the door. Her slender fingers gripped the door frame tightly as jealousy flooded her gaze.
She finally understood that despite her best efforts, Floretta would never be won over in the slightest because she only had Angeline in her heart.
