Howling Hearts

Chapter 45

Lucian:

When Scarlet left warning me to deal with the Riley situation, I contacted her father immediately. I knew speaking to Riley would be nothing but a waste of time.

I was sitting at my desk waiting for the time to pass. I kept clicking and unclicking the pen I held in my hand, watching the minutes on the clock tick by in a slow, unforgiving manner.

A knock on my office door brought me back to reality and ripped me from the trance the clock had placed me in. "Come in" I said hastily.

Damion stepped in, confused by my anxiousness. He had barely seen me like this, but scarlet was bringing out pieces of me that I didn't know I had. 1

"Alpha Kade is here" As soon as the words left his mouth, I shot out of my seat and out of my office door.

"He's not going anywhere" He said mocking my reaction. I looked over my shoulder, glaring at him, letting him know I was not in the mood.

I swung open the door, revealing Alpha Kade smiling brightly. He was always a friendly person. He had black hair but he hadn't looked after his body as much as he should've.

He once had a body that all women would die for, but now he has taken the shape of a beach ball. "Alpha Lucian, it's always a pleasure to meet with you" He said, lifting his hands up in appreciation.

"Thank you Alpha Kade, I appreciate your kind words but I don't think you will agree with that statement after this meeting." I stated I wanted to get right to the point and not beat around the bush.

I knew Riley's Life depended on this, but so did Scarlet's reputation and the alliance between the two packs. He raised his brow in a curious manner trying to pick at my brain.

I gestured for him to take a seat. When he did, I sighed at the thought of how to address him. "Alpha Kade, I have found my mate and I am planning on making her my Luna" He sat back on the chair.

"That's not what I've heard" "That's why we are here today. As I was introducing my future luna to the pack, Riley decided to push in front of my mate and kiss me in front of the whole pack. This has caused confusion."

I said, looking at his eyes, trying to find out what his thoughts were. "I think that's a blessing. A marriage between you and my daughter would seal the alliance. I think my daughter is fit to be you Luna. Her mother has taught her everything she knows."

"NO", I said, fisting my hand on my lap.

"My mate will be my Luna"

"You can have her as a mistress. Riley is far better than an average wolf at taking the role of Luna. Your mate will bring you power, but Luna is a big responsibility, one Riley was born to take."

His words angered me.

"My mate was born to be mine and thus born to be Luna. I have no doubt about her capabilities"

"I understand your disappointment, Lucian, but Think with your head. Can you truly say that this mate of yours is better than our daughter?"

I knew he was trying to catch me in that question. I couldn't offend him, but I knew if I had said what he wanted me to, that would seal the deal for Riley and me.

"Alpha Kade, I understand that you love your daughter. But understand that I know best for my pack. Just like you do. I leave you to make the choices for your own pack. All I'm asking is that you return the favor" He crossed his arms over his chest before he hesitantly nodded.

"Out of respect for you and the alliance I have called you in for this meeting. I believe it would not only be best for Riley to go back home but also safer"Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

He thought about it for a moment, pondering on all the possibilities.

"Will you be wedding our daughter or not"

"Unfortunately not. I haven't mated or wedded because I have been waiting for my mate. Now that I have found her my mind will not be changed", he nodded, confirming that he heard what I was saying.

He sighed deeply and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I'll tell Riley to come home" A sigh of relief filled the room and Alpha Kade just looked at me before he started laughing.

"I know. she-wolves can make us insane in more ways than one. You're a good kid, Lucian, and I really hope you will change your mind in regards to Riley, but I can assure you that your choice will not affect the alliance." I nodded at his words and he got up from his seat. And left the room, leaving me alone.

I have to be honest, I was anticipating this to go much worse than it did.

Scarlet:

Aiden has been following me around school all day long. Like a little pup. A very annoying one. When I sat down for lunch, he came and sat right next to me.

"So scarlet any plans for tonight" I rolled my eyes at him and ignored him.

"No answer is still an answer. How about I pick you up at 8"

"Sorry no I've got plans with my mate" he nodded and then his eyes lit up again.

"How about tomorrow night?"

"Busy."

I just wanted him to get off my back. A lot of girls came by and asked him out, making it evident that he was definitely on the radar of each un-mated she-wolf. He declined each one of them and looked over at me to see if I would get jealous. I didn't, though. "Why don't you just accept one of them and leave me alone."

"Because my heart only wants you"

"well I'm taken and not interested, so get over it".

He then searched my neck and smelled my scent.

"He hasn't marked you yet, so its fair game". I glared at him, warning him to not test my patience. He just giggled and it annoyed me. I knew he saw me as some sort of trophy, nothing else.

The day went past without getting a break from my shadow that seemed impossible to shake off or chase. So I decided to ignore it.

Eventually, he would have to give up. When school came to an end, he offered me a ride home, which I obviously rejected.

When I arrived home, I saw no sign of Riley. I was hoping I would never have to see that face again. I looked down at my phone and saw she sent me a message.

"We should get together sometime." As if. If I had to be stuck with her alone in a room for 5 minutes, I'll snap her neck within the first 5 seconds.

I went to my room and fell face first onto the bed. Today was the second worst day of my life. I just wanted to curl up under the blankets and shield myself from the world.

Lucian entered the room, revealing a proud grin plastered on his lips. "How was your day"

"Ughhh" was all I could answer. He giggled a little, making my stomach flutter at its rhythm.

"Well, I'll be the bearer of good news. Riley won't be here anytime soon. I have also announced to the pack that this morning was all wrong but that they would meet their future Luna at breakfast tomorrow. 1

"His words were both calming and frustrating. I was happy that I wouldn't be seeing Riley's face for a decent while, but I was nervous about facing the pack after what had happened this morning.

"I still have plans tonight. Ill be taking you on a date." He said before exiting the room. "How late?" "Seven thirty." I can only hope that the date wouldn't be a disaster
