Chapter 3
Sabrina received a call from Shannon, her mother-in-law, right after she got into the car. Shannon wanted Sabrina at the Tucker manor.
Hanging up, Sabrina stared out of the window. Nelson had changed into a new outfit. He waited by the door, seemingly wanting to visit the Tucker manor with her.
They had always put up a front—one of a loving, married couple—when they were around his family.
Sabrina didn't budge this time. Once she had decided on divorce, she couldn't care less about Nelson's feelings.
After he was done with his cigarette, he impatiently rapped his knuckles on her car window. She replied flatly, "I'll drive there alone."
Nelson retorted, "We can't get my mom worked up."
Shannon had surgery scheduled soon. If Sabrina and Nelson showed up at the Tucker manor separately, Shannon would definitely overthink it.
Sabrina said nothing. Even if Shannon was angry at them, it was all Nelson's fault to begin with. When she was rolling up the car window, Nelson suddenly remarked, "Don't you want your brooch?"
She saw him placing a hand on top of the car in a leisurely yet commanding manner—as if he had control over her.
Pursing her lips, she finally left her car and took his. This was the first time they sat in the same car since their marriage. She had always looked forward to moments like this, but now, she felt nothing.
The driver drove steadily down the road. Sitting close to the car window, Sabrian observed the carefully ironed, wrinkle-free pant sleeves from the corner of her eye.
…
After 20 minutes, they arrived at the Tucker manor. Nelson buttoned his jacket and left the car holding her hand.
Her fingers were trembling. The sight of their intertwined fingers upset her more than the night of waiting for him. Disgusted, she tried to free herself but failed.
Nelson was tacit and emotionless as usual. Although he didn't seem to exert any pressure on her hand, she couldn't break free from his grip.
Laughing from anger, she jeered. "Your parents aren't dumb. They can tell that we're putting on an act. Just give me the brooch, and I'll deal with your parents on your behalf."
He calmly stared at her, refusing to believe that she'd really get a divorce.
However, she took his silence as approval. After all, he wouldn't want to keep his dear Pamela in the dark after proposing to her yesterday.
She decided to let him hold her hand since she couldn't free herself.
Shannon was satisfied to see the couple holding hands as they entered the living room. A thought crossed her mind, and she rolled her eyes at Nelson. She addressed him crossly, "Get your ass up to the second floor. Your dad's waiting for you."
Then, she changed into a friendly demeanor and spoke to Sabrina, "Brina, the internet gossip has crossed a line. I should apologize to you." She appeared really sorry for Sabrina.
Except for Nelson, everyone in the Tucker family was nice to her.
Shannon added, "I know you've been wronged. Just tell me what you want, and I'll teach Nel a lesson!"
Though Sabrina was thankful for Shannon's support, she understood that Shannon's backing would only make Nelson hate her more. Tired of living such a married life, she blurted out, "Shannon, I'd like a divorce."
Shannon expected Sabrina to be enraged about the rumors of Nelson and Pamela, but she didn't expect Sabrina to bring up a divorce.
"Brina, this will be the last time he goes abroad. I will make him break up with that woman. Just stay together, and he'll fall for you one day. It's a pity to give up on the marriage now," Shannon worriedly advised Sabrina.
"It's only sensible to cut my losses on hopeless endeavors. I'll visit you often, even after the divorce." Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
Shannon was speechless that Sabrina had finally given up. Sabrina hugged her gently and said, "You're the best mother-in-law in the world.
"Because of me, you and Nelson are drifting apart. I'll go upstairs to talk to Jackson. He should stop scolding Nelson."
Shannon accompanied Sabrina to the study. Inside, Jackson was chastising Nelson, "It's already a challenge to take over the responsibilities of Tucker Group after you spent years abroad, away from the crux of power. If news of a divorce leaks—even if your marriage was secret—it will harm your reputation!"
"If you agree to my divorce from Sabrina, I'll willingly give up my share of Tucker Group."
Shannon and Sabrina overheard Nelson's bold statement just as they entered the study.
He seemed deeply in love with Pamela. Once, his family had forced him to choose between his position as heir and Pamela—he had chosen Pamela without hesitation.
Three years later, his determination was unchanged. Besides heartache, Sabrina felt oddly moved by his unwavering resolve.
Shannon, on the other hand, grew furious upon hearing Nelson's declaration. "Nelson Tucker, you would have died if your father-in-law hadn't saved you! How could you say that?"
"Sabrina's dad has nothing to do with my survival…"
