Branch One Hundred and Eighty Nine
The news that they had all heard startled them. They were gaping at Jason and Alicia as she flaunted her rings in his face.
“When did this happen?” Leslie said when she recovered. She had seen Alicia recently and she could not recall seeing a diamond on her hand.
“Last week when I visited him and the city,” she said with a smile.
“How did the bloggers not carry this? You have been a great source of joy to them since you two have been showing an awful amount of love to each other. It was titled A Love Across Cities by Chiachester’s Dailies” Brian explains.
“It was a quiet proposal and I decided not to wear the ring” Alicia spoke. Between herself and Jason, it was hard to tell who was more excited about breaking the news to them.
“Congratulations, this calls for a huge celebration,” Jessica said and Jessica turned to her. “It sure does,” she said in happiness.
She waved to the waiter who walked briskly to them. “I have made an order with my reservation, you can begin to bring them out” Alicia had gone all out. As the waiter rolled out the food cart they all concluded that she must have been so overjoyed.
“You know my restaurant serves very good food,” Jessica said as she took a sip of the soup.
She thought the nausea would subside with the progress of the pregnancy but it felt to her as if it got worse with every new day.
“If I were to order this much food at your restaurant I would give myself away,” Alicia said.
“Do not fret oh dear child” Jason began making them burst out in laughter. “Before I retire back to my beloved city I would ensure that we dine there so many times you would have kicked out”
“Okay, so why are you taking like a character that jumped out of a Shakespeare book?” Leslie asked.
“I am so overjoyed” he responded and took his glass up. “This call for a toast does it not?” he asked as he swirled the wine in the glass.
“It sure does,” Brian said taking the bottle and topping up his and Leslie’s wine. “Let’s toast” Brian added as he raised his glass to the air.
Jessica picked up her water glass and clicked it with the others.
“Jessica are you not drinking today?” Leslie asked. It was strange to see her pass up alcohol. She does not have a high tolerance but she always took at least a sip of it.
“I quit drinking for now” she responded as she took the cup in her hand to her mouth and gulped down the water.
“Are you quitting alcohol?” Jason asked in amusement.
“Not really, just for a little while” she responded.
“What is going on?”
“I was going to announce it today but seeing that you prepared this dinner and had such great news to share with us o thought to share another day so you do not feel as if I stole your thunder”
“What are you taking about?” Leslie asked getting impatient.
“I am pregnant”
Now it was the turn of every other person to look strange at Xavier and Jessica.
“You owe me money,” Leslie says facing her husband.
“Wait what?” Jessica asked confused at the statement she made that followed hers.
“We made a bet, I told him that you both were already so head over heels with each other and that very soon we might get tangible results”
Jessica had not yet informed her girls that she and Xavier were now together.
“Leslie I guess you have always been the smarter one,” Xavier said eyeing his friend and personal assistant. “Congratulations Jason Jameson and Alicia Gates”
“You do not need to be so formal, Xavier” Alicia replied. “And also my congratulations to you too. You both have surprised us so much it is hard to believe anyone”
“You are the one who surprised us,” Jason said pointing in their direction. “I thought you both could not stand the sight of each other but a baby?” he added.
“Congratulations,” Leslie said. Something inside her gave her a pang of jealousy. How was it that she who has been trying so hard to have a baby did not get one but Jessica who just tried once had a baby on the way? She wanted to be happy for her friend but she did not know how to express it.
“That makes two things to celebrate so let’s drink,” Alicia said raiding her cup. “Oh except from you Jessica” she added with a wink.
Jessica let out a small laugh and took up her water to her mouth. Alicia raised her hand to signal the waiter who walked to their table.
“Is there anything else I can help you with?” he asked.
“Yes, can you help my friend here who can drink wine with maybe an orange juice or something? ” Alicia said turning to face JessicaContent © NôvelDrama.Org.
“A grape juice would do” she responded. The waiter boards his head slightly before making his way towards the kitchen at the back.
They continued talking with each other and sharing the good news. After a long exhausting time, they finally separated from each other. Jason and Alicia claimed to go plan for the wedding g but it was obvious that they were too drunk to be able to do anything. They would most likely stumble into bed naked and have s*x. Jessica was at least not drunk this time around and Xavier was one who rarely got drunk.
Leslie and Brian made their way home. As they entered the house Leslie walked to the kitchen with her husband tailing her. She took a jug of water out of the refrigerator and walked to the island to pick out a cup. She took a long sip of water to make her sober. She did not drink much so she just needed to wake herself up.
“I will go freshen up,” she told Brian as he stood there watching her.
“Okay,” he said in a hiccup pouring himself a glass of water.
