Branch Thirty Seven
For the rest of the dinner, Leslie was fuming mad at Xavier. She could never have thought that he was such a cold-hearted jerk. She knew that he was stuck up and lost in his world all by himself but she never thought that he would be selfish.
Leslie would get even angrier if she visited Jessica the next day and she said she had already signed the contract of divorce in a year with Xavier. She might have even more off her head if she knew that Jessica did not read a single line of the contract but appended her signature.
“Make him take a cab back to where ever he wants to go,” Leslie said and opens the door of the car and enters.
Xavier had ridden with them in their car and they were supposed to drop him back at the hospital but with annoyance that she felt there was no way she would ride in the same car with him for a single minute more. Leslie closed the door and waited on her husband to come in and begin driving.
“Don’t you think that Leslie is overreacting?” Xavier asked Brian who was standing before him.
It made no sense to him that she would be mad that he was going for a divorce. He knew that there was no way they would make a good couple. Jessica was truly beautiful but she was not his type. Especially since he did not know what his type was.
“Overreacting?” Brian asked as if he did not hear his friend right.
“She is not overreacting. You would not understand what Jessica would go through once you separate within such a short period. She would go through much more than you think” Brian said patting his friend’s shoulder.
He walked over to the driver’s seat of the car and opened the door before turning back to face Xavier.
“I’m sorry I have to leave you here but Leslie is right ALWAYS,” Brian said emphasizing the always. There was no way Brian would get into an argument with his wife just to side with his friend. That would be a very foolish decision on his part.
“Good night buddy. Get an Uber. Don’t stand outside for too long. The seasons are changing. You might catch a cold”
Xavier was lost for words. He couldn’t believe his friend a d secretary would leave him out there without any sure way of getting home.
“Why did you keep me waiting talking to that ass” Leslie said as her husband slipped into the car and lit on his seat belt.
“You know that he is quite special. He doesn’t know what emotions are and he doesn’t feel them. Let’s not be too hard on him. He is a child in an adults body” Brian said pleading his case.
In as much as he was avoiding conflict with his wife hr had to be there for his wife. Aside from Dawson only Brian knew him well enough to know that he was a young man who was detached from all his feeling.
“Just Drive” Leslie said plugging in her earpods.
She did not like that Brian made sense.
Xavier ordered a ride back to the hospital. He walks into the VIP ward. He enters the room to see the television playing with a sleeping Jessica on the bed and a strange figure sleeping soundly beside her.
He become alarmed but stayed calm because he did not want to startle Jessica awake. He moves closer and puts a hand over the strange figure:’s shoulder and shakes her awake.
Sleepy Angel raises her head and gets startled when she sees Xavier standing there. She stands to her feet with the speed of light and moves back before bowing her head to greet him.
“Young Master, Good evening,” Angel said.
Since she was greeting him this way Xavier put two and two together and he knew she was a staff from the house.
“I brought dinner that Roselle prepared for the young lady” Angel explained.
Xavier barely knew and remembered the faces of the house staff.
“You’re dismissed,” Xavier said turning and leaving the room.
Angel had slept off while she waited for Jessica to finish eating. Jessica saw how soundly she slept after she had probably worked all day leaving her to sleep and went ahead to sleep too.
Angel quickly packed up the lunch bag and did a quick wipe down of everything in her sight before hurrying off. She encountered Xavier coming back with a nurse who had some extra blankets with her. She bowed and left in a hurry.
Xavier entered the hospital room and the nurse put down the blankets spreading them while stealing glances at him. She was disappointed that Xavier was married else she would have taken the time to ask him out. If she could not have him she could rip him open with her eyes.
“I’m done sir,” the nurse said standing upright and sizing him up and down.
“Dismissed” Xavier replied not looking up from his phone.
She scurried out of there and stole glances at Xavier as she stepped out. Xavier sat down where the nurse had prepared for him.
He glanced at Jessica as she slept soundly on the bed. He scrolled through his phone silently as he read the news of the day. After a while, he lay down on the prepared sofa and slept too.
The morning alarm in Jessica’s body woke her up as early as she could. She sat up on the bed and looked around. Her eyes fell on Xavier who was sleeping soundly. The drip on her hand was already finished so she alerted the nurse’s station with the landline on the bedside. The nurse removed the drip and left her.
Jessica felt touched to her bones that Xavier stayed with her all night. She entered the rest room to wash up her face and brush her teeth. She was going to see Dawson today and hopefully get discharged.
She heard a knock on the door and it opens slowly. She looked at the door frame and saw Xavier standing there with his hair messy and he was looking sexy. He rubbed his hand over his eyes and rest on the door frame.Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
