BIT 110
Rebecca covered her mouth in shock.
“Really? Is that-”
“No, Becky, the baby is not mine. I swear to God, I never had sex with Alicia again,” Harvey interrupted. He reached out and grasped Rebe hand tightly. “If it weren’t for my mother, I would never have left you and Lily at the hospital that day. I’m sorry,” he said, his voice choking up.
Rebecca swallowed hard. Thinking back to the painful events of a few months ago made her stomach churn. “At least everything’s okay now,” she said, smiling with tears in her eyes.
“I still have a lot to deal with, especially telling my selfish father who’s living in Switzerland,” Harvey said bitterly. He gently stroked Rebecca’s head. “Stay here for a while; this place is very safe. I’ll come back for you and Lily after everything’s sorted.”
Rebecca nodded, feeling a bit traumatized by the separation but knowing she couldn’t cling to Harvey like a child. “Please be careful. Don’t get hurt.”
“I won’t. I love you,” Harvey said, looking deeply into Rebecca’s eyes.
“I love you too,” Rebecca replied, feeling strange saying it because, legally, she was still married to
Sean Parker.
After quickly kissing Rebecca, Harvey followed Max, who had already stepped outside, and they disappeared into the distance, having parked their car a little way off.
“Wine?” Susan offered when she saw Rebecca enter the house with a somber expression.
Rebecca grinned broadly. “Please!”
That night, Rebecca talked at length with Susan over some good wine, finally getting a peaceful night’s sleep for the first time since she had come all the way from Boston.
One week later,
“What’s troubling you on this bright morning?” Susan asked as she placed a plate of cookies on the table in front of Rebecca.
Rebecca grimaced.
“I haven’t heard anything from Harvey and Max, and it’s really unsettling. I’m so afraid things aren’t going according to plan,” she said, lowering her gaze to Lily, who was sleeping soundly in her
-arms.
Susan sighed deeply and reached out to gently pat Rebecca’s back. “I’m sure they’re just trying to protect you,” she said, trying to reassure her.
Before Rebecca could respond, there was a knock at the door. Susan and Rebecca exchanged

glances.
“Let me. Just stay here,” Susan said as she stood up and walked toward the door.
A moment later,
“Becky, look who’s here!” Susan called out excitedly

Rebecca stood up and saw Harvey standing at the door with a wide smile, and behind him, Max gave a stiff wave. If she weren’t holding Lily, Rebecca would have jumped into Harvey’s arms, but she restrained herself.
“Do you two have some kind of radar? Becky was just talk about you, and suddenly, here you are. I’m sure you’re meant to be together! Come in! I’ll make some delicious tea!” Susan said cheerfully.
Harvey kissed Rebecca and Lily, then pressed his forehead against Rebecca’s for a long moment. “I’ve missed you two so much,” he said earnestly.
“We’ve missed you too. I thought you’d disappear again,” Rebecca said, her voice breaking.
“I won’t. From now on, we’ll always be together,” Harvey said, softly kissing Rebecca’s forehead.
“Any updates?” Rebecca asked after they had all settled on the sofa, enjoying hot tea and cookies.
“The reports and evidence are complete. They’ll be sentenced to a maximum of fifteen years in prison. And that’s not all-Max also helped expose the corrupt prosecutor and judge who handled Nicholas and Alicia’s case before. We just want to make sure that never happens again,” Harvey explained, placing his cup back on the table after taking a sip.
Rebecca sighed in relief.
“That’s great! Um, how about your father and mother?”
“My father decided not to come back here; he’s staying in Switzerland and is filing for divorce from Victoria, while my mother-” Harvey sighed deeply, his face darkening. “Um, the doctor said she needs to be returned to the psychiatric hospital like before, so I’ve arranged for a comfortable VIP facility at McLean in Belmont.”
Rebecca reached out and gently patted Harvey’s shoulder. “You’ve done your best. She must be proud of you.”
Suddenly, Max cleared his throat, drawing Rebecca and Harvey’s attention.
“I’ve filed your divorce papers against Sean Parker and-”
“And what?” Rebecca interrupted anxiously.
“And he was arrested last night after we found CCTV evidence of the abuse he committed against Maggie just minutes before her accident,” Max replied calmly.

Rebecca’s eyes widened. “CCTV evidence? How did you find it?” she asked, curious. “Someone had it but never dared to reveal it.”
Rebecca frowned. “Who had the CCTV footage? Was it one of the maids?” she asked, still curious.
“One of Angela’s foster children who also worked at Sean’s clinic. Her name is Ella.”
Rebecca covered her mouth in shock, unable to believe that Ella had finally found the courage to do the right thing. “Thank God…”
“So, now what?” Rebecca asked as she and Harvey stood in the bedroom after putting Lily in her crib.
Harvey stepped forward and pulled her into his arms. “Let’s start over, just the three of us: you, me, and Lily. I promise, this time, there won’t be any more drama to tear us apart,” he said earnestly.
Rebecca hugged Harvey tightly. “Let’s just move somewhere safe. i know it sounds selfish, but as long as you’re still the heir to the entire Specter fortune, I don’t think our marriage will ever be peaceful. I have a feeling there will be more Victorias and Alicias,” she said, her voice trembling.
Harvey pulled back and looked at Rebecca, surprised. “Are you telling me to give up my inheritance? You know that until I’m forty, that wealth will always be under my control,” he said, staring at Rebecca, confused.
“Well, let someone else run the company! You can still benefit from it without being involved, right? What I’m trying to say is, we could start over somewhere else where no one knows us,” Rebecca said, her eyes shining.
Harvey was taken aback as if something had just dawned on him. “You’re right. And when I turn forty, I’ll donate fifty percent of my assets to charity and leave the rest to my parents. I think I can still be a good husband and father to you and Lily without that inheritance,” he said with a warm smile.
Rebecca nodded. “All we need is for you to be with us. So, any country in mind?”
Harvey shrugged. “I don’t know, maybe somewhere warm in Southeast Asia?”
As they were teasing and kissing each other, suddenly, there was a knock on the bedroom door.
“Yes, Max?” Rebecca asked after opening the door and finding Max standing outside.
“Becky, I forgot to tell you, but someone was looking for you yesterday when I picked up the divorce papers at your condo,” he said flatly.
“Really? Did they leave their name?” Rebecca asked, curious.
“Yeah, they left their number with me. Her name is Cathy.”
Rebecca’s eyes widened in shock.
