Contract Marriage With The Disabled CEO By Woody Rain Chapter 14
Chapter 14
Chapter 14 He’s Back
Kerwin looked out of the window at Betty’s retreating figure and pondered. “I feel the same way.”
Kerwin did not expect that Betty would refuse his offer flatly.
He had sent Peter to dig into Betty’s background and found that Betty was just a gold-digger who could do everything for money.
Kerwin chose her precisely because of this.
He could buy her off with a little money. She was much easier to deal with than those ladies with their eyes on all his assets.
Kerwin admitted that Betty wasn’t annoying. That was another reason he chose her.
To his surprise, she didn’t seem to want his money at all.
Or was she cleverer than he thought? Was she just playing hard to get?
Kerwin’s eyes lingered on Betty for a moment, and then he looked away.
“Drive.”
Betty arrived at the office and found it in chaos.
“Betty!” Sarah rushed over like a whirlwind. “Our magazine went on sale this morning. You know
what? We broke the sales record in just one day!”
Sarah screamed excitedly and handed Betty the magazine that had just been released.
Betty saw Kerwin’s picture on the cover of the magazine.
In the picture, Kerwin was in a wheelchair, but his handsome face and the cold elegance he exuded
fascinated the readers. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
“It’s great.” Betty felt truly happy about it.
“It’s super, super great!” Sarah was completely obsessed with Kerwin. “Check your Twitter. Mr. Martin is one of the most searched names! People are going crazy.”
“About what?”
“They’re guessing who his wife is! Check it out.”
The magazine was available beginning today. Betty checked her Twitter to kill the time.
Kerwin was really a trending topic.
Betty clicked on the topic and saw many comments about Kerwin. His fans were crazy about him…
“My God, how come no one told me the president of Tylman Group is so hot? Now I am his number one fan!”
“Gosh! Is he a model? I really want to lay him!”
“If I can’t get laid by him, what’s the point of life…?”
Betty read the exaggerated comments and burst into a hearty laugh.
Kerwin was a good-looking and successful man indeed.
He graduated from the Ivy League with double degrees. He gave up his executive position on Wall Street to start the Tylman Group. And the group had a substantial footprint in Chicago and even in
the whole country in just a few years.
Kerwin was perfect.
His fans were crazy about him and curious about his mysterious wife.
“Well, since my husband has made our relationship public in an interview, I can’t deny the truth that I’m the legendary Mrs. Martin!”
“I guess Mrs. Martin must come from a wealthy family. Otherwise, how could Kerwin’s business flourish in just two years?”
“Come on, that sounds kind of boring. Maybe this is like a modern-day Cinderella story.”
Cinderella?
Betty let out a hearty laugh.
Betty was just an average girl, and Kerwin was out of her league. This was like a modern-day Cinderella story indeed.
Betty was scrolling through the Twitter feed idly. Suddenly, her phone rang. She got a call from her
best friend Susan.
“Hello.” Betty picked up the phone.
Somehow, Susan asked cautiously, “Betty, have you heard the news?”
Betty was confused. “What is it?”
“Jeffrey Martin… is back…”
Betty’s smile froze on her lips and her face went white.
Betty was confused. “What is it?”
“Jeffrey Martin… is back…”
Betty’s smile froze on her lips and her face went white.
On the top floor of the Tylman Group’s building in Chicago’s financial district.
Kerwin sat at his desk tapping fast on the computer, and the images and numbers on the screen changed rapidly in response.
The telephone rang.
Kerwin pressed a button, and Peter’s voice rang out from the other end of the phone.
“Mr. Martin, Mr. Watson is here.”
“Let him in.”
The office door was opened, and a young man in a pink shirt walked briskly in.
“Kerwin, you’re still working,” shouted Nick Watson, looking at Kerwin with exaggerated surprise. “You didn’t have a wedding. I thought you were on a honeymoon or something.”
Kerwin’s eyes never left the screen as he said, “No time for that.”
Nick sat down opposite Kerwin and was not angry at his indifference. Nick stared at him with laughing eyes and joked, “You’re a boring guy. I feel sorry for your poor wife.”
Kerwin’s eyes finally came to rest on Nick Watson, and his face was deadpan. “Nick, what exactly are you trying to say?”
Nick grinned, his eyes crinkling. “I’m bored and want to see your wife.”
“Forget it.” Kerwin refused without hesitation. “You should know why I married her.”
“Of course I know.” Nick pursed his lips, and the smile died upon his lips. “But anyway, you’re married. You’ve moved on, right?”
Kerwin heard Nick’s words and stopped typing. His fists clenched slowly.
“Yup, as you can see.” After a few moments of silence, Kerwin added, “No one could come back from the dead after all.”
Nick looked at Kerwin and opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came out.
“What about that little girl back then?” Nick couldn’t help but ask again. “Any news on her?”
