Denied by Destiny: Trapped in the Shadows of the Mate Bond

Chapter 90

Alora POV

I've been living two lives, one where I am happy in front of Than. Him none the wiser.

Then there's the other me that when I am alone, I start to obsess about what I read on my files in the doctor's office.

Without Than near me, I can't stop thinking about it.

I need a second opinion, a doctor who isn't part of the Amber Desert Pack, who will tell me the truth. It is now clear that people have been holding back on me.

A part of me is in denial also, but the other part is starting to put things together. How I've not really been alone since waking up from my coma. Why my wolf isn't strong enough to shift. Why I've been having abdominal pains.

Than is leaving pack grounds for a few days, taking Beta Zane with him. This was my opportunity, my chance to find out for myself what the hell was going on. With Medea off pack grounds still, Freya is to move in with me to keep me company.

She was in too deep with me now not to help me with this.

"Where are you going again?" I ask Than as I walk him out of the front door.

"Just to visit a few packs...just part of pack relations. Networking and building up strong relationships with other alphas." He places his overnight holdall in the car boot before walking back over to me. He snakes his arm around my back and pulls me in for a kiss. Sparks erupt across my lips from his gentle kiss.

"I won't be long, I promise."

"I'll be fine. Just be yourself, they'll love you...as I do."

With Than and Zane both off grounds, now was the perfect time for me to visit a new doctor. Freya as always was against my idea but she would prefer to come with me, than let me go alone.

We were going to drive into the local city, Freya having sourced a doctor that can be discreet and has no links to our pack.

I was confident that we wouldn't get caught by Than on Zane, because I am barely spending time outside of the alpha house...therefore, my presence wouldn't be missed.

Except for the guards on the gate. We had a cover story in place to get past them...our excuse is that we are picking up supplies for the pack, gifts for the maternity ward.

Driving into the local city, nerves start to overwhelm me from my bold plan in seeking the truth. Freya must pick up on my nerves, as she places a hand on my thigh that was trembling uncontrollably.

"We can head back, we don't need to do this." Her voice has a hidden depth of hope, hope that I would back out.

"I need to know what is wrong with me. If what I saw is true then it changes everything." In more ways

than I would share with Freya right now.

"Just take each moment at a time, I'm sure the doctor will put your mind at ease. I'm sure what you thought you read was a mistake. You were rushed and underpressure in the doctor's office, you misread it that's all." Freya has been a real support to me recently, but I can't pretend to be as positive as she is.

Even in the haste of the dramatically staged moment created by herself, I knew what my eyes saw. I didn't misread.

I wasn't expecting it to be a female doctor, I don't know why. But it put my mind at ease the moment I entered her room.

She takes her time giving me a full health check, taking bloods, listening to my heart and then completing a scan on my abdomen and lower back.

"Well?" I ask as she sits me down at her desk, reading through some of my results.

"This is unusual indeed...for a werewolf not to heal."

Freya remained in the waiting room, which consisted of a mixture of both werewolves and humans. The female doctor most likely kept under the radar from the werewolf community due to her serving of the human world as well.

She is right to think that my wolf should be able to heal any internal injuries as well as external injuries, but I have failed to inform her of what I did.

"The results are saying you have organ failure which must be wrong..." She doesn't believe her own documents in front of her as she flicks through them time and time again. She even pulls out of her desk drawer glasses as if her own eyes deceive her. "It's not wrong. I drank wolfsbane...a considerable amount of wolfsbane. I then entered a coma which I remained in for 2 years." 1

"It would explain why you are having the organ failure. The machines that you would have been wired up to during your coma kept you alive. I'm sorry my dear but it would seem there is no coming back from this."

I'm weightless as I leave the doctor's office, Freya trying to ask me what happened. But I feel light, as if I wasn't walking but floating.

Poor Than, no wonder he has been so possessive...he knows the fate I have doomed us to and how long I have left.

I can't let him mark me. It would be too cruel for him to mark me, only for me to be ripped away from him.Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.

I carelessly push open the building's doors not even looking as I join the busy pavement, full of human workers on their lunch breaks. I can hear Freya telling me to slow down but her voice is quiet, as if miles away. The area is swamped with people, and I just want to be alone. I even bump into somebody's shoulders turning briefly to apologise before moving on...

"Kaia....Kaia is that you?"
