Chapter 9: Scents of Liquor
Chapter 9: Scents of Liquor
"Wow, that guy we encountered earlier was really good-looking," Miss Linda remarked as we strolled through the mall, searching for cellphone shops. She was still fixated on the incident from earlier. It was such a foolish moment for me—I had no idea what I was doing, and it was utterly embarrassing! "Apologies for bursting your bubble, Miss Linda, but you're a bit too old for him... I hope you're not offended," I replied matter-of-factly, scanning the mall with my eyes. She burst into laughter at my remark. She's laughing? Well, at least she's amused by my observation. Wait, what's so funny? "Are you kidding me, kid?!" she exclaimed. "Ahm miss?" "Can't you sense it? I want him for you, not for myself! Oh, you silly child, you crack me up!" she continued to chuckle heartily. Ah, that's what she meant. Yes, Kurt is attractive, but no thanks. I'm not interested in relationships right now—or even in the foreseeable future. I can envision myself working diligently until I become financially successful. I can't picture myself getting involved with someone anytime soon. "Sigh, you're a bit naive, Lyka... Anyway, let's enter that store! I think it's a cellphone shop," she said, and I followed along, as was my usual routine. We promptly chose an affordable yet reliable cellphone model. We had a small disagreement over who would pay. I wanted to split the cost, but Miss Linda insisted on paying the full amount. Goodness gracious! She truly is insisting with her welcome gifts! "How many times do I have to tell you that it's on me, Lyka? Consider it my welcome gift to you, alright?" She could be intimidating at times, but not now. Instead of coming across as nagging, she appeared rather endearing. I sighed and accepted her victory. "Alright then, Miss Linda," I even bowed and curtsied as if I were a princess before her. Another silly moment, but I suppose it was cute in its own way... She smiled and replied, "Good." Now I have a touchscreen cellphone. will cherish its quality. And the fact that Miss Linda purchased it for me... well, it's the thought that counts. After buying our phones, we hastily boarded a bus. We did not notice that it was already a quarter to 6:00 in the evening. How swiftly time flies, doesn't it? That's why we should always spend it with the right people. When we arrived at Gustavo's mansion, we quickly changed into our maid uniforms and headed to the kitchen. Unfortunately, Joday and Doday were nowhere to be found in the kitchen. They must have spent their entire day off at the bar. Miss Linda and I had no other choice but to cook ourselves. I also needed to deliver Kiro's dinner to his room. For the past week, I had been the one responsible for bringing food to his room. Surprisingly, during all those days, he didn't make any advances or touch me inappropriately. It seems like he's genuinely recovering. Once Miss Linda finished cooking, I promptly placed the food on a tray and carried it with me as I made my way to Kiro's room. Strangely, I still couldn't bring myself to call him ‘Sir’, and I wasn't sure why. As I entered his room, I was met with the scent of liquor. Wait, what? Liquor?! Ugh, he's such a stubborn man! He's not supposed to drink alcohol because he's still recovering from his illness. I remembered the doctor saying that alcohol contributed to his sexual addiction as well. "Umm, Sir Kiro?" I hesitated, finally using the term ‘Sir’. I noticed several beer bottles on his bedside table. He really is stubborn. "Sir, you know that the doctor forbids you from drinking alcohol, right? So why are you doing it?" I scolded him as I gathered all the bottles and dropped them on the floor. I replaced them with the tray of food. "Hey, Lyka..." Tsk! "You're not acting like a mature person, Sir. Stop being so stubborn!"
He laughed at my remark and held my hands. I had already forgiven him and accepted his apology the other day. I convinced myself that it wasn't Kiro the person who had mistreated me, but rather Kiro with an illness. I felt sympathy for him. I knew there must be hidden reasons behind his current condition. If the doctor attributed it to alcohol and lust addiction, there must be a deeper story behind why he constantly drank and brought women to his room before his illness. The question that still lingered in my mind was, what could that reason be? "Come on, have a drink with me, Lyka." I quickly pulled my hands away from him. He wasn't listening to me at all. "Stop complaining, man. Quit drinking!" I urged him firmly. He stared at me intently, and my mouth went dry from his piercing gaze. I averted my eyes and continued scolding him. "Oh, come on, Lyka... It's just a few... bottles," he insisted. I let out a sarcastic laugh. "Yeah, right, a few... bottles!" He looked at me with amusement and gave me a smile. Was he sober or drunk? Suddenly, an idea popped into my mind, and my eyes widened. "Okay, okay, here's my condition... Want to hear it, Sir?" I asked. He simply nodded in response. "I'll drink with you... but you have to eat this food first. You know, it's not good to drink alcohol on an empty stomach," I explained. He smiled and nodded in agreement. I handed him the tray with food, and he was about to start eating when I interrupted him. "Wait! And as part of our deal, we'll only have one bottle of beer, okay? Just one bottle!" I declared. Luckily, I have a high alcohol tolerance, and it was already evening, so Miss Linda and Madam wouldn't mind if I drank. I would just let them know later that I went along with their request for Kiro's sake. "What? Only one bottle of beer—" "Shh! No more questions, and eat that food now!" I interjected.
He simply nodded like an obedient puppy. What a well-behaved dog— I mean, what a good man.
