Chapter 58: Celine Is Being Unreasonable
Chapter 58: Celine Is Being Unreasonable
Joker took a few steps away before stopping. "Why aren't you leaving yet? Are you still waiting for
those two people to come back?"
When he brought it up, Vivian immediately remembered the revolting smiles on their faces and couldn't
help shuddering in disgust.
She quickly walked after Joker.
This time, she finally thought of a way that she might be able to reject their so-called relationship.
"Excuse me, Joker, you were only kidding just now, right? I mean, we've only just met for the first time
today."
"Joker?"
"I'll treat you to dinner some other day, okay?"
"Mr. Joker?"
All the way out, Joker remained silent no matter what Vivian said. This content belongs to Nô/velDra/ma.Org .
Before they knew it, the two of them had reached the surveillance area of the Howard family.
Joker pulled on his hoodie and walked towards a motorcycle parked by the roadside.
"Go home. I'll contact you again."
Then, he revved up his engine and shot off in the opposite direction.
Vivian stood rooted to the ground in shock as she watched the motorcycle moving farther and farther
away. He certainly had to be joking, right?
As soon as he was out of sight, Joker stopped his motorcycle at the roadside and took out his phone
before dialling a number.
"Hey, do me a favour and investigate the relationship between Chow and his dad's lovechild."
He hung up right after that and slipped his phone back into his pocket. Then, he put on a pair of
sunglasses to hide the emotion in his eyes.
The playful, mischievous look in his eyes was long gone. Instead, it was now replaced with a dark,
chilly aura.
Vivian never thought that she would go through such a harrowing episode just for going out on her own
because she hadn't wanted Aunt Blaine to worry.
She didn't know if it was a blessing in disguise. The uneasy feeling in her chest from days before had
mostly disappeared.
She carefully cleaned up the dirt on her body and then went back with the sketchbook in her hand.
However, as soon as she saw the person in the living room waiting for her, the uneasy feeling suddenly
came back to her tenfold.
Celine was sitting on the sofa in the living room, looking as if she'd been waiting for Vivian to return.
Vivian's entire body immediately went stiff and rigid.
She clenched the sketchbook in her hand as she stood at the door, unable to move.
Celine calmly looked at her, her eyes filled with anger, contempt, and disdain. She no longer seemed to
be as full of smiles as before.
Vivian had already expected this reaction when they met again, but she didn't think she'd see Celine
waiting for her at home as soon as she came back.
Her lips trembled. She wanted to call out Celine's name, but she just couldn't say anything.
She no longer had the right to even address her by her name anymore.
Celine watched Vivian quietly as the girl stood unmoving at the door.
Maybe she would feel slightly better if she knew how uncomfortable Vivian was feeling right now.
After a long while, Celine finally got up from the sofa and walked slowly towards Vivian.
She was just a woman who was a few years older than her, but the aura she exuded as she came
closer made Vivian tremble in fear.
She didn't expect Celine to smile suddenly when she walked up to her.
However, it was precisely this forced kind of smile that was the most frightening to Vivian.
"I heard the maid say that you went out sketching. What did you draw? Let me see." Celine reached
her hand out and waited expectantly.
When Vivian remembered the contents in her sketchbook, she suddenly paled and tried to hide the
book behind her back.
But Celine didn't give her the chance to hide and immediately snatched the book away.
Vivian buried her face in her hands. She was so deathly pale that she looked sick.
Celine opened up the sketchbook and flipped through the pages one by one. All of the sketches were
that of Chow, whether it was him standing, sitting, up close, far away, in deep thought, or smiling gently
to himself.
...
It was obvious from the sketches that the artist had a deep affection for her subject.
Celine's fingers on the sketchbook tightened until her knuckles gradually turned white.
Finally, she couldn't bear it anymore. She threw the album heavily on the ground and stepped on it
several times with her high heels. "Vivian, you've been such a good little sister to me," she spat.
Tears burst out from Vivian's eyes.
Granted, they weren't related by blood, and they had never felt much towards each other.
However, for the past two or so years, Celine had always been treating Vivian as her little sister.
At this moment, she really didn't know how to explain herself.
She was only having a relationship with Chow because she was forced to.
But what difference did this make for Celine?
After all, she was still the third wheel in this relationship.
"I'm sorry." She really had no idea what else she could say apart from this.
She had once hoped that she would have escaped as far as she could before Celine found out.
She wanted to flee from this unspeakable relationship and leave the world that had Chow in it.
But she wasn't prepared for the world to shatter while she was still caught up in it.
The man who started it all had taken everything away from her, including the only bit of barrier that was
left between them and Celine. Then, he had turned his back on her and left her with nothing but a
scornful gaze.
Celine gritted her teeth as she looked at Vivian. "Tell me why? Every time I was with Chow, I always
had to look out for those sly b*tches who had their eyes on him. I never thought that you would be the
one to betray me in the end."
The accusations were not all true. Celine had always known that Vivian was a threat to her. She would
never have truly treated Vivian like a real sister.
However, she knew that Vivian would only feel the most hurt and guilty if she spat it out like that.
In actual fact, Celine had been thankful for Chow's blow-up at the parking lot that time. Besides finally
exposing what his relationship was with Vivian, it had also brought back the memories from three years
ago for Chow.
...
Vivian had nowhere to run from Celine's accusations. "I'm sorry, I'm really sorry," she said. That was
the only thing she kept repeating.
She seemed to have forgotten that she was a victim too.
"Your apologies mean nothing to me. I've always known that there would be tons of b*tches after
Chow's money, after all, he is the only heir to the Howard family. And here I thought that you wouldn't
turn out to be exactly like your mother!"
This was Vivian's Achilles' heel.
Her whole body shook as she shook her head in denial. "No! It's not like that."
"No? Pfft, are you trying to tell me that Chow was forcing himself on you?" Celine smirked as the words
left her mouth.
Vivian stopped immediately.
Celine had a point. In other people's eyes, Chow was handsome and he came from a wealthy
background. Girls would all be fighting between themselves to even try getting close to him.
Nobody would believe her if she said that she had been forced against her own will.
Besides, she really had feelings for Chow.
Vivian's sudden halt make Celine even more infuriated.
Slap!
...
Celine slapped Vivian hard. Vivian's cheek immediately started stinging in pain.
"You shameless b*tch!" Celine screamed at her.
For some reason, Aunt Blaine never appeared. Vivian had no idea where she could be.
Vivian held her swollen cheek and bit her lower lip tightly.
She wanted to refute, but she did not know how to.
Celine was Chow's fiancée. She had known it since she first stepped foot into the Howard Mansion.
Of course, Celine would only think of her as a shameless b*tch.
...
Nobody would ever want to understand her feelings for Chow.
The feelings shouldn't even exist in the first place.
"I'm sorry, Sister Celine."
"Don't call me like that! It's disgusting!" Celine cut her off viciously and finally revealed the real reason
why she'd come to see Vivian. "Tell me what you want so you'll leave Chow alone!"
Leave Chow alone?
Vivian had always looked forward to that day every day.
However, when Celine asked her now, she didn't know how to answer.
Celine sneered. "What? You don't want to leave him? Are you trying to replace me as the rightful Mrs.
Howard?"
As she spoke, a hint of malice flashed across Celine's face. "Don't forget who Chow chose to be with
that day. Didn't you know that he hates home-wrecking b*tches the most?"
Her words made Vivian's heart freeze over again.
Vivian hurriedly shook her head and responded quietly. "No, I'm not! It was Brother Chow who—"
"Of course Chow doesn't want you to leave because he hasn't tortured you enough yet! Don't you want
to know how Chow explained your relationship to me after I woke up that day?" The sneer on Celine's
face grew deeper as she spoke.
As if thinking that her revelation wouldn't be shocking enough, Celine took out her phone, searched for
a recording, and tapped 'play'.
Chow's voice started playing from the recording.
It was the same low, seductive voice that had Vivian's heart thumping wildly every time.
But today, Chow's voice only brought her more profound heartache.
"I hate her. I'd do anything to torture her."
That was the entire recording. Of course, Vivian knew that Chow was talking about her without even
needing for him to say her name explicitly.
Celine knew it too.
Aside from the two dead people, the only other person Chow could hate so much was Vivian.
It was laughable how she once hoped that Chow's hatred towards her would evaporate if she spent
more time with him during the past two years.
Everything had been in vain.
Vivian's knees went limp and she fell straight to the ground.
Celine felt very satisfied with Vivian's reaction. She put away her phone and continued to rub salt on
Vivian's wound. "I know that Chow is only venting out his anger on you because your mother stole his
father away. I can forgive him for treating you this way, but you must understand that he will never, ever
forgive you. It's a lose-lose situation for all of us if you continue staying by his side."
Vivian looked at her helplessly. She was too upset to understand what Celine meant between the lines.
However, Celine mistook Vivian's silence for objection and flared up in anger once more. "Did you
really think Chow doesn't want you to leave? He can only finally let go of his hatred if you would just get
out of his life! Why do you think he told me to see you alone?"
Vivian's lips trembled softly. "Did he tell you to come today?"
Celine's pupils widened slightly. She nodded under Vivian's forlorn gaze. "Of course he did. He even
said that you're dead meat if you choose to continue staying with him."
Vivian felt her heart squeezing tightly in pain.
