Chapter 49 Can I Come To You?
Edmond seemed really angry.
When Alicia went downstairs with Edmond to go to work, Edmond got into his car without looking back and didn't say goodbye to Alicia.
When Alicia came back to her senses, she froze in surprise.
It was so weird. Edmond had never said goodbye to her before. What the hell was she thinking?
Before Alicia could continue to be troubled, the company called her.
"Ms. Casey, there will be a temporary meeting later. Those directors want to see you."
Her heart sank. NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.
Alicia had probably guessed why the directors wanted to hold a meeting.
Then Alicia hurried to the office. The moment one of the directors saw Alicia, he condemned her.
"You promised last time that you would take the project with the AQ Group. And we all believed you and didn't interfere with your rights. But is this your answer? It is such a great project! I can't believe you let our arch-rival company get this project! Alicia, you're quite a piece of work."
Alicia was mentally prepared.
"I have another solution for this."
However, the board members didn't want to hear what she had to say and began to condemn her.
"Peter recommended you as acting CEO, and he has repeatedly emphasized that you are his most trusted and reliable candidate. You get this position through your connection. That has already upset us. Now, you're still messing up the company like this. And the company is facing huge losses. Could you handle it?"
These directors had long been dissatisfied with Alicia, so they took this opportunity to give Alicia a hard time.
It was not the first time Alicia had faced harsh criticism and bashing from the directors.
In the past, Alicia handled these people with ease. However, after dealing with them, she returned to the office and felt depressed.
She usually chose to call Grace and asked her out for a drink to drown her sorrows.
Since Grace was pregnant, she couldn't drink alcohol and easily got emotional. Therefore, Alicia didn't want Grace to be affected by her bad mood.
After thinking about it for a long time, Alicia decided to call Edmond.
Edmond had a terrible look on his face right after he finished reading Melissa's CT report.
"I need to schedule you for surgery as soon as possible."
Melissa nodded and looked calm. "Go ahead."
"I've checked out the schedule. You will have surgery in two weeks at the earliest."
"Alright."
Edmond lowered his eyes. After thinking for a short while, he said, "The surgery doesn't have a high success rate. Even if I were to do this surgery for you, I can't promise you that."
However, Melissa laughed and said, "Don't worry. If I die on the operating table, I won't blame you."
If she died, she would lose everything. Even if she had to blame Edmond, she couldn't be able to.
Melissa wouldn't blame him, but Alicia would...
"Licia has a right to know about this. At the very least, you have to let her mentally prepare for it."
"But I'm afraid it'll give her a hard time."
"Now, she's not short of money. If you want to accept the treatment, she can afford to pay the medical bills. She doesn't need to beg anyone anymore."
Melissa knew Alicia wasn't short of money right now.
However, when it came to the people closer to her, the harder it was for Melissa to say goodbye.
As Melissa was dwelling on the issue, Edmond's cell phone rang.
Edmond didn't usually answer his cell phone at work. When he saw that it was Alicia calling him, he froze. And he held the phone for a moment and did not know what to do.
After all, Melissa was an experienced person, and Melissa could guess who was calling from the look on Edmond's face. Then she quickly waved her hand and said, "Don't tell her about this yet. Give me a moment..."
Edmond walked out of the hospital room before answering Alicia's phone call.
"Hello."
Alicia's serious tone seemed a little unusual.
There was silence on the other side of the phone for a few seconds. Then Edmond heard an uncertain voice. "Are you busy?"
Edmond heard her voice sound a little uneasy. Then his heart skipped a beat. He answered her in a soft tone, "I'm okay. What's going on?"
"Can I meet you at the hospital?"
