Chapter 41 A Dramatic Turn Of Events
The moment Amanda finished talking, a pin-drop silence ensued in the hall.
Not a single person had expected Cordrington Corporation to lose the tender. To their surprise, the
winning company was one they had never even heard of—Julianna Corporation.
The guests started discussing and chattering among themselves.
“What kind of company is Julianna Corporation? Who on earth is Christopher Yaeger? How come I’ve
not heard of them before?”
“I’m as clueless as you. Who’s that?”
Many people were stunned and in disbelief. They began to scan around the hall, trying to locate
Christopher.
After all, this was shocking news!
Jared, who had already gotten himself ready to go up the stage, trembled. The smug expression that
he had when he was humiliating Christopher earlier had left his face, instead replaced by utter
bafflement and incredulity.
If only Christopher’s name was announced, then there was a high chance that someone in the hall
shared the same name as him. However, Ms. Clark had said “Christopher Yaeger from Julianna
Corporation.” There’s only one Yaeger I know of named Christopher!
The offensive words that he had said to Christopher kept replaying in his head. Now that the tables had
turned, he became sullen, aggrieved, and extremely dissatisfied with the outcome.
How is that possible? How could I have possibly lost to him? What gives? He’s only a retired soldier.
Moreover, Mr. Synder has been transferred away!
Jared was devastated. He could not accept the reality, especially when Daniel had personally
confirmed that he had won the tender. Additionally, Christopher’s proposal had long been discarded by
Daniel, and Amanda even congratulated him in advance. He had no idea why the results were different
than expected.
“Did she mention my name, Mr. Cordrington?”
Christopher stood up and posed the question to Jared, all while he was adjusting his wrinkled t-shirt.
He rubbed the stain left by the grape he had eaten earlier and then got ready to give his speech.
Upon hearing the question Christopher asked on purpose, Jared nearly popped a vein in anger. He
knew that the former had done it intentionally.
“How can it be him?”
Fabio was about to give Jared a round of applause and cheer for him when everything changed in a
split second. He almost choked on his congratulatory words and was forced to keep silent. His
dumbstruck expression was priceless as he looked like he had just swallowed a fly.
Just like his son, Fabian was equally flabbergasted at the news. A sinister look crept up on his face
thereafter. This is out of my expectations. Out of all the scenarios I planned for, nothing could have
prepared me for this.
Frank was befuddled. First, he stared at his supposedly useless son-in-law. Then, he withdrew his gaze
and fixated it on Jared. Comparing Christopher’s cheap t-shirt and Jared’s branded clothing, he thought
that the results were unbelievable. It was all like a dream to him. This just doesn’t make any sense!
The most excited person was none other than Julianna. Never in a million years had she thought that
her husband would succeed in the tender. Tears streaked her face as she said in a quavering voice,
“Christopher, you made it!”
Christopher was exceptionally calm and composed because he already knew this would happen. There
was nothing surprising to him since he owned Centurion Corporation.
It was an awkward moment for many. They could not comprehend the dramatic turn of events as it was
the first time it had happened in history.
Daniel, who was standing on the stage, widened his eyes and looked utterly lost. It took him a moment
to snap back to his senses. He was so sure that Amanda had made a mistake. Hence, he commented,
“I’m sorry, ladies and gentlemen. I think that Ms. Clark might have been accidentally handed the wrong
file or recalled wrongly…”
“That’s more like it. I think that Ms. Clark was definitely mistaken. Julianna Corporation was only
established two days ago with a capital of a hundred thousand. Christopher has set up a shell
company!” Jared shouted out loud like a drowning man desperate to cling to the last strand of hope he
had found.
“Oh, so it’s a blunder then? Isn’t that fellow who just stood up the owner of the shell company that Mr.
Cordrington was referring to earlier?” Several reporters recognized Christopher and spoke
contemptuously.
“Who would have thought that even Centurion Corporation would make such a boo-boo!”
At that moment, everyone else assumed that it was just a misunderstanding. In line with that thought,
they anticipated Centurion Corporation to correct themselves and make a new announcement that
Cordrington Corporation was the company that won the bidding.
“It’s absolutely bullsh*t that Christopher emerged as the winner! How could a shell company get
selected? Why is the embarrassment never-ending? How much more must we endure being a laughing
stock in public? Seriously…”
Frank was of the opinion that the first announcement was a mistake too. To him, Christopher’s This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
company would only succeed in striking a deal with Centurion Corporation when pigs could fly.
“Dad.” Julianna did not expect her father to be so frank.
“I really shouldn’t have come and let this useless piece of trash put me through this. My pride is
completely shattered, and my reputation, gone. I should have just followed your mom home just now,”
grumbled Frank.
