Chapter 8 The biggest shame!
"Elope?" Pearl was shocked.
"Are you now denying that you broke up with Alex?" Richard scoffed.
Seven years before, Pearl suddenly went abroad. Since then, she had never contacted with her friends
or family.
Richard had been so mad at searching for her until he heard that she left with someone else.
In the next 7 years, Pearl and Alex are like ghosts haunting Richard. They were in his every dream and
it was impossible to dismiss it.
It was the greatest shame in Richard's life.
Pearl was confused with the name of Alex, but she soon snapped back to her senses.
But if Richard did not remind her, she would have forgotten the stupid lies completely, which she made
to end their five-year relationship.
"Mr. Zellweger." Suddenly a nurse knocked the door.
Pearl quivered for that. With all her strength she pushed Richard away and hurriedly got out of bed.
Witnessing this, Richard's eyes went cold and calm again.
"Yes?" Richard asked.
"I heard you are not feeling well. Do you need a doctor?" the nurse asked.
"No, thank you. I'm tired. Please leave me alone!"
"Ok."
The nurse answered and she walked away.
Pearl sighed with relief. She dared not stay longer. And she did not even look back at Richard when
she went out hurriedly. "I will have something to do. So I am leaving."
Richard didn't stop her. He watched at her leaving. He went blank and his back fell against the sharp
corner of the bed. Immediately, a sharp pain made him frown. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
He was very frustrated. He could not know why he missed this cold and selfish woman. It had been so
many years but he couldn't stop thinking about her.
In the following days, Pearl avoided Richard on purpose. So she didn't meet him again.
Adriana would almost come to visit Richard every day. So whenever Pearl met Adriana, she would only
nod at her without saying anything.
"Richard, I just talked with the doctor. It's your diet that counts and it'll take some time to improve your
body. So staying here is the same as staying at home. If you're like that, how about going back home?"
Adriana pretended be casual and peeled an apple. She cut it into pieces and send it up to Richard's
lips. She said, "Have some fruit."
Richard's face was dark. He acted like he didn't hear it. And she did not know what was on his mind.
Adriana's eyes dimmed for his silence. She put the apple on the plate and then changed the topic.
"Richard, I've picked some venues for the wedding. Do you want to have a look?"
"I'm ok with anything you choose, as long as you like it."
"Ok, I know you're busy. I'll deal with it. Right," Adriana said hesitantly, "Should I send an invitation
letter to Pearl?"
Richard frowned at the name.
Adriana explained, "After all, we were best friends. If she was still abroad it is all right that we don't
invite her, but she's back now. I would seem to be mean if I don't invite her now. However, if you really
don't like it, I would not insist"
"You've been thinking too much?" Richard suddenly glanced at her. He seemed to be able to read her
mind.
Adriana was a little frightened. She did not know what to say.
Richard got up from the sofa and saying, " So let us get discharged, right?"
"Huh?" Adriana was stunned. "Now...?"
He hummed a "Yes" in response and explained, "The hospital is just so-so. And the ventilation isn't
great."
His face was expressionless when he said this.
He turned his back against Adriana. So he didn't find that she tightened her hands on the paper for his
words. Somehow she feel stranger to this Richard as he seemed to be leaving her.
