Chapter 24 An Unfair World
Chapter 24 An Unfair World
There were two things that men shouldn’t looked straight into. One was the sun, the other was the
heart.
The former hurt your eyes. The latter hurt your feelings.
Vincent made himself look like a good son-in-law and a loving husband.
Today, Calvin unveiled his true self in front of everyone.
This time, they finally knew how despicable and disgusting he really was.
“How did you know...”
Vincent didn’t care about the pain in his body anymore.
He stumbled to his feet and wanted to grab Calvin’s phone.
Then, Calvin slapped him hard in his face.
This slap was the revenge for the humiliation Vincent brought him all these years, his evil thoughts
about Rita and his double-faced behaviors.
Vincent vomited blood and spat out two of his teeth.
Betty couldn’t just look on and she wanted to hold him up. But Lewis was furious, “Don’t you dare help
him!”
“Grandma...” Betty had to ask Mrs. Houston for help. Mrs. Houston wanted to say something but even
she felt like Vincent had taken it too far.
At last, she sighed, “Vincent, how could you do that? How could you help others to do harm to your
family? You disappointed me.”
Vincent lowered his head and didn’t dare to utter a word. He knew at this time, he had to pretend in
order to make them pity him.
After all, the Houstons all liked him so much before.
In the living room, the atmosphere was pretty weird.
The one who was targeted at became Vincent. They all found out that they had wronged Calvin.
Even though this was not the first time.
Especially Rita. The look on her face was very complicated.
She mustered her courage and murmured, “Calvin, then the time you tossed that water bottle at me...”
“Since I had known what they were up to, I can’t let you drink that. At that time, you’ve already opened
the bottle. I had to do that. So, I’m sorry.”
Rita shook her head, “You don’t need to apologized to me. Thank God that you saved me. Or else I
don’t know what I should do.”
Vincent suddenly looked up at them. After he lost his teeth, he couldn’t speak very clearly.
“Auntie, I admit that bastard Bradford did want to do bad things to Rita. But I was just going along with
him in order to get that contract so I could help you out. How could I ever do such terrible things? Rita,
you gotta believe me.”
After that, Betty said hastily, “Right, we all know who Vincent really is. He was forced to do that. And
Rita is completely fine after all.”
Rita stared at this shameless couple coldly, “That’s because Calvin saved me. Otherwise...”
Betty snorted, “How can you prove he was telling the truth? What if he was lying? Are you gonna wrong
Vincent?”
Everyone started to think this through. Yes, this recording did make people despise Vincent.
But what if Calvin was lying? How did Calvin know there was something wrong with that bottle of
water?
After all, Rita was completely fine and was still standing in front of everyone.
Mrs. Houston cleared her throat, “Vincent, no matter what you say, we are all disappointed in you.”
Vincent was lying on the ground like a dead dog. He didn’t dare to explain for himself.
“But we can’t just give him up. I personally think Vincent only verbally humiliated Rita. At the end of the
day, I believe he only said that to get the contract. He and Betty have always been a loving couple,
which we have all witnessed.”
Betty held on to Mrs. Houston’s arms and cried, “Thank you grandma, Vincent definitely didn’t mean
that.”
Calvin sneered. After all this, she still dared to say that Vincent was wronged. He was curious how far
they could go.
Rita was breathing hastily. This time, she really thought Mrs. Houston was being totally unfair.
“Grandma, you think he did nothing wrong?”
Mrs. Houston was stunned, “I... let alone whether he is wrong or not, Calvin...”
Speaking of Calvin, Mrs. Houston’s tone turned cold.
“Do you have any proof Vincent did give her the drugged water?”
Calvin looked at her, “Isn’t the recording enough?”
“Of course not. Vincent had explained that.”
Calvin asked, “And you believe him?”
“I…I do. He is a good kid.”
Calvin asked again, “But what about me? Will you trust me?’
Mrs. Houston was astonished. She didn’t like his attitude. He was questioning her.
“Hmm, I’m not going to answer that. I just want to know if you have any proof or not.”
Calvin laughed. He looked at Carrie and asked, “Mother, Rita is your child. If something happens to her,
you ought to help her. You chased after me just because I bruised her wrist before, right?’
Carrie felt a little guilty, “I, I would definitely help her. Vincent, you swear that everything you said is
true.”
Vincent got down on his knees and said, “Auntie, I swear if I ever lied to you, I’ll be condemned to burn
in hell for eternity.”
Carrie nodded and turned to Calvin, “Vincent swore and I believe he was telling the truth.”
Calvin took a deep breath and asked, “So, you choose to believe him?”
“Yes...I do.”
Calvin looked up to the ceiling and talked to himself.
“This world is so fucking unfair.”
Calvin didn’t ask Rita the same question. He didn’t want to irritate her.
The truth was, he didn’t dare to do that either.
If Rita also chose to believe Vincent, Calvin didn’t know whether he would break down or not.
“Vincent!” Calvin abruptly shouted gloomily.
“Ahhh...”
“Let me ask you one last time. Do you admit that you wanted to drug Rita?”
Vincent denied without hesitation, “How is that even possible? Don’t frame me.”
“Look me in my eyes! Do you admit that!”
“No!”
Mrs. Houston struck her walking stick to the ground.
“What are you doing right now? You really want to tear our family apart? We all believe that he didn’t do
it. What more do you want?”
“You’re just jealous of him because he got the contract which makes you look bad.”
“How can a man be so petty? You’re not qualified to be the son-in-law of the Houston family.”
Betty tried to make things worse for Calvin by saying, “Grandma, he’s just jealous of Vincent. Vincent
had tried so hard to get that contract for the Houston family. And Calvin dared to record this and
snitch!”
Hearing that, Carrie started to look at Calvin differently.
Just as she was about to say something, Calvin took the chance and said, “Fine, then I’ll show you who
your loving son-in-law really is!”
“Vincent, don’t blame it on me. You’re the one who didn’t want to admit it.”
Vincent stood up subconsciously, “Calvin, what do you want? What did I do to you to wrong me like
this?”
Calvin didn’t say more to him and just turn on the screen in the living room.
He took out of his phone and projected a video on the screen.
The video was shot by Paul’s secretary.
The video quality was very high.
On the screen, there was two bodies tangling with each other.
The scene drove everyone in the room into madness.
Mrs. Houston yelled, “Oh my God!”
Betty stared at Vincent and there was no life in her eyes. Suddenly she threw up and there was vomit
everywhere in the living room.
Rita glared at Calvin. She seemed to blame him for putting on such a disgusting video,
Calvin shrugged. He was forced to do that.
By the time he thought this was enough, Calvin turned off the video and put on another recording.
“Mr. Bradford, why did you say yes to Vincent? You just took two hundred thousand from Mr. Jones.”
“So what? They brought the money to me. Was I supposed to turn that down?”
“But what about Mr. Jones?”
“You, get a copy of contract and use the fake stamp...”
Carrie looked at the contract on the desk.
She was speechless. Which one was the real one? Which one was the fake one?
Then Calvin looked at Mrs. Houston, “Do you still believe he is innocent?”
Mrs. Houston was shocked. She stuttered for a minute and then shook her head and sighed.
Calvin was being kind of too aggressive. He turned to Carrie and asked, “Mother, do you believe him
now?” NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
Even though Carrie knew she was wrong about Vincent, that didn’t mean Calvin could be so rude to
her.
“I don’t believe him but I also don’t believe you. You’re no better than him. You used a fake contract to
fool me...”
Before she could finish her nonsense, Calvin called someone on Facetime.
The screen showed Selena’s face and she was surprised, “Calvin...”
