“For God’s sake, I can explain everything.”
Entering their apartment unit, Lucas immediately pulled Deasy to sit on the sofa. He followed and deliberately sat right next to her while looking deeply into her eyes.
“First, I apologize. I sincerely apologize for not being honest with you from the beginning. But there are reasons for everything.”
“Oh, really? So, you lied for a reason?” Deasy replied with a skeptical expression.
“Please…” Lucas pleaded. “Please listen to me first until I finish. I’ll explain everything step by step.”
Deasy nodded, allowing Lucas to continue his explanation.
“From the beginning, I didn’t intend to deceive you. Seriously, even before we met, I was assigned by my father to investigate Forty-nine.”
“Investigate?”
Lucas nodded. Eventually, he had to explain everything without any more concealment.
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not, but in recent years, Forty-nine seemed to be successful on the surface. However, in reality, it was in deep financial trouble. There were suspicions that some high-ranking employees were deliberately sabotaging and embezzling. That’s why I was assigned to find out.”
Deasy was surprised this time. Judging from her expression, she was shocked to hear Lucas’s explanation.
“So, that’s why you went undercover? You intentionally became one of the employees to blend in and conduct an investigation?”
Lucas nodded again, this time reaching out to hold Deasy’s wrist firmly.
“Yes. So, I went undercover purely to carry out the task my father gave me. Not to deceive you. Besides, our relationship became complicated and eventually developed due to coincidences, right?”
Deasy didn’t deny this. She had indeed become involved in a complicated relationship with Lucas because of her own mistakes. This is from NôvelDrama.Org.
“But from the beginning, you didn’t explain any of this to me, Luc. Even after we agreed to have a serious relationship, you continued to maintain your disguise. You could have been honest with me.”
Lucas took a deep breath. He found himself in a complicated situation, much like what Felix often warned him about.
Once again, Lucas understood. It was only human for Deasy to be angry and feel deceived. That’s why he had to be patient and carefully explain everything.
“I apologize. I was wrong. Initially, I planned to keep my identity hidden until I completed the task my father assigned me. But, after we started a serious relationship and you suddenly proposed marriage, I thought about it and prepared the right time to tell you everything. I’m not playing games, Des. I’m serious about this relationship with you.”
Deasy laughed. Her heart couldn’t fully accept what Lucas had just explained.
“Let’s say I accept all your explanations and apologies. I’m also trying to understand all the reasons behind your disguise. But, it’s still not easy to continue this relationship, Luc.”
Lucas was startled.
“What do you mean?”
“Don’t you wonder why I suddenly found out that you’re actually Lucas Morales?”
Lucas was so focused on finding a way to convince Deasy that he hadn’t even considered this.
Deasy’s words hit home. Why hadn’t he looked into it before? Where and from whom did she learn the secret that he had kept so carefully?
“For your information, Luc,” Deasy continued eagerly, “this afternoon, your father met with me.”
“My father?”
Lucas was shocked. Despite knowing that his father didn’t approve and hadn’t allowed him to cancel his wedding plans with Devina, he never expected this. He also didn’t anticipate that his father would act so quickly to meet Deasy in person.
“Yes. Mr. Andreas Morales. Your father, right? He took the time to meet and talk seriously with me.”
“Don’t tell me this is the reason why you suddenly-”
“Yes,” Deasy replied quickly. “Just as you’re thinking. If you must know, your father even asked me to stay away from you, Luc.”
“What?”
Deasy nodded repeatedly. Her face, which had been filled with anger earlier, now slowly turned sad.
“I thought that by telling him that I’m currently carrying your child, he would relent. But I was terribly wrong, Luc. Mr. Andreas said that the baby in my belly is not your flesh and blood, not a Morales descendant.”
Lucas was stunned. He didn’t need to be told; he was sure that his father’s words had hurt Deasy deeply.
“Honey… I’m sorry. I-”
“I’m just a cheap woman, Luc,” Deasy interrupted with a mournful tone. “Mr. Andreas said I’m not fit to be a part of their prestigious family. He said I trapped you. Am I really that disgusting that he had to humiliate me like that?”
Right then and there, Lucas pulled Deasy into his embrace, allowing her to cry and release all her emotions.
“I’m sorry, my love. I’m truly sorry. But I swear to God, what my father accused you of is completely untrue.”
“Whether it’s true or not, Luc, it’s still pointless,” Deasy continued. She released herself from Lucas’s embrace and looked directly into his eyes.
“My father also said that you’ll never marry me, Luc. He said you already have a fiancée. And only that woman is worthy to be with you, not me.”
Lucas shook his head, wiping away the tears that had streamed down Deasy’s cheeks.
“No, sweetheart. That’s not true at all. From the beginning, I promised to take responsibility and marry you as soon as possible. And I will prove it. I won’t break my promise.”
Deasy looked into his eyes again. She held Lucas’s wrist and held it tightly while continuing to gaze at the man sitting beside her.
“Luc… I know it’s too early. But… if you truly love me, please prove it. Please marry me, no matter how.”
