PHB 71
Since learning about what Deasy had done to him and the company, Lucas had been trying to fix things. Focusing on the company, he asked Felix to prepare a report on the completed investigation.
“Sir, are you really going to put Ms. Deasy’s name as the person responsible for the losses incurred by the company?”
Lucas nodded, affirming what his assistant had just asked. In any case, Deasy had to take responsibility for what she had done to the company.
“Yes. However you look at it, Deasy must be held accountable,” Lucas said confidently. “Moreover, she has been doing this for a long time, consciously and deliberately. That means she was prepared and considered all the risks in case her actions were exposed, as they are now.”
“I understand that, sir. I fully support your firm stance. However, my question here is, after Mr. Andreas finds out everything and processes this report with the authorities, will you be okay with it? Ms. Deasy is pregnant, after all. She’s carrying your child. If she ends up in jail, what then?”
Lucas fell silent for a moment. This was also something he had been thinking about for days. Regardless of the pregnancy, Lucas didn’t even want to process what Deasy had done, considering he genuinely cared for her.
“Let that be my concern with Dad later. For now, just finish the report. Once it’s done, I’ll bring it to him today.”
Hearing Lucas’s response, Felix didn’t ask any further questions. He quickly completed the task assigned to him and handed the finished report to Lucas, who promptly went to meet his father. There were many things he wanted to discuss and clarify.
That’s why, when they met, Lucas didn’t waste any time. He got straight to the point, expressing his intentions and purpose for the meeting.
“Father, I thought after our argument the other day, you didn’t want to see me again.”
Andreas seemed intentionally sarcastic. There was no way he could forget when Lucas had firmly stated that he would resign from his position if his father didn’t approve of his marriage plans with the woman he had chosen.
“Let’s not go there, Dad. We don’t need to discuss it again. Lucas is here to hand over the report from before.”
“Why? Have you finished it?”Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
Lucas nodded and handed over the document containing the neatly prepared report that Felix had worked on earlier.
“Please read and review it first. You might be curious about the person who has been causing the company to lose money all this time.”
Andreas appeared curious. After receiving the folder from Lucas, he quickly opened it, took out the neatly arranged sheets of paper, and began reading carefully.
In silence, Andreas read to himself. Lucas could see how his father’s initially relaxed expression gradually turned serious. There was even a moment when his father adjusted his glasses, as if to confirm what he was seeing.
“Deasy?” Andreas deliberately displayed a sharp grin when he mentioned her name. Then he looked up at Lucas and continued, “So… all of this was Deasy’s doing? The woman who is pregnant and whom you intend to marry?”
Lucas nodded, not denying anything his father had just asked.
“Yes, it was Deasy.”
“Does Dad think that she’s not as good as you thought? Besides, from the beginning, Dad was sure that she was only using you, Luc. And now? Dad’s suspicions have been proven right.”
“Well, let’s just say Dad’s instincts were right this time.”
“And you still want to continue your relationship with a woman who clearly harmed the company?”
Lucas smiled bitterly. He had been confident from the start that his father would ask this question. Not to mention that even before the truth came out, his father had opposed the idea of marriage between him and Deasy. Now that he knew Deasy was the one responsible for the company’s substantial losses, it made things even more complicated.
“Don’t worry, Dad. As you requested earlier, Lucas will not continue this relationship. If Dad wants, Lucas will go back to the original plan to marry Devina next month. However…”
“However, what, Luc?” Andreas asked with obvious curiosity. He was also somewhat pleased that his son had given in and agreed to the original plan of marrying the woman he had chosen and prepared all along.
“However, Lucas has two conditions that Dad must and should agree to.”
“What are they?”
“Please don’t take this case to the authorities. Handle it internally.”
“How is that possible, Luc?” Andreas interrupted quickly. He believed that what Deasy had done was a clear criminal act that should be processed seriously. “Wrong is still wrong. Regardless, Deasy clearly committed a crime. She has clearly harmed the company with a significant value. There must be consequences for her actions. Don’t think you can turn a blind eye just because you’re in love.”
“Lucas understands, Dad. But Lucas will ensure that all losses are compensated promptly. Lucas is confident that this matter can be resolved amicably without the need for law enforcement involvement.”
Andreas gazed at Lucas. Seeing his son’s pleading expression, Andreas couldn’t bring himself to refuse.
“Okay, if you can guarantee that, Dad will comply with your request. Now, what’s the other condition?”
Lucas took several deep breaths, gathering his resolve, and then presented his final condition to his father.
“Lucas wants Dad to honestly explain about the death of the late Anton Wolf several years ago. Was it true that Dad was the cause of his death?”
Andreas was taken aback. He looked at Lucas, who seemed to be waiting for his response. Then he pondered whether he should honestly disclose his past, which he had long been reluctant to revisit.
