Chapter 88
"Will she be alright?"
"Of course she will."
The healer was here. They thought I was asleep, but I had woken up a few minutes ago. I only kept my eyes closed.
"She has lost her pup, but she's still okay and still has hope of getting pregnant again," the pack healer continued.
I did not like how she said those words. She sounded like the chances of me ever getting pregnant again was low. I swallowed, wondering why I got pregnant in the first place if my pup was not going to live.
I heard footsteps, signaling that someone else walked into the room to join Janice and the pack healer.
"Rita, sit up straight. We have a lot to talk about." It was Aunt Freya's voice. I was not surprised that she could tell that I was awake. Since I was much younger I liked faking being asleep, so I could eavesdrop on those around me easily. Right from the beginning of time, Aunt Freya could tell when I was sleeping or when I was not.
I opened my eyes and sat up straight like she told me to.
"When did you wake up?" Worry was written all over Janice's face.
I shrugged casually. "I woke up early enough to hear everything the pack healer told you about my condition." I turned to the pack healer. "You sounded like the chances of me getting pregnant again is fifty fifty." "I never said so."
"But, that was how you sounded like," I countered and she looked away. "And even if I did manage to get pregnant," I continued. "What are the odds that my pregnancy will last?"
"I warned you to mind you how you eat," Aunt Freya said. "Vee's treatment worked. Your womb got poisoned again, but just like shadowsting cannot be detected, what was used on you can't be detected too."
"So, I was poisoned again?" If Aunt Freya words never turned out to be true in the past, I would have have believed her now. Everything seemed to me finally falling into their places. Who would want to poison me now? "What do I do now?"
"First, we have to find out what was used. You just have to relax. She turned to the pack healer and signaled the pack healer to leave with her. Aunt Freya left with the pack healer, so Janice was the only person with me now. "Janice, I hope the Alpha has not found out that I lost our baby."
"He has not. I was very strict when I invited the pack healer over Plus, you did not lost any pup. Like your Aunt, Freya said. You probably got poisoned."
"Whether or not I was poisoned, I still no longer have his child." My heart slackened. "The most horrifying part of everything is that more than half of the pack knew I was pregnant. It will be embarrassing for my mate if he has to tell them that we were no longer expecting a pup and their heir."
"Whatever they say is none of your problem."
"Well to me, it is. I have only managed to get their heart and respect recently. It would be devastating for me to lose their trust. I was their Luna and werewolves rarely lost their pups. If they find out the truth, I will be in big trouble. I just have to come up with a good reason of not giving birth to a pup when it was announced that I was pregnant. Or should we say it was just a rumor that I was pregnant."

"I'm pretty sure the Alpha has mentioned you getting pregnant in his videos more than once. You just have to tell everyone the truth, but first the Alpha needs to know about-"
"I am not telling him anything."
"You're not telling him anything how? He has every right to know about this."
Janice looked displeased.
"Well, I can't tell him anything."
"Why can't you?"
"This news is heartbreaking. I am not ready to tell him anything. Do you know how happy he was when he found out that I had his child? My mate has been nice and I have no reason to doubt that he won't be nice to me again, but like every other wolves, he is flesh and blood. What if he is unable to bear this?"
"So, what will you do when it is finally time to give birth to your pup?"
"Hopefully, by then, I would get pregnant," I replied and Janice gave me a look of disapproval.
She let out an exasperated sigh. "Look, Darius told me that your advice was one of the things that helped him open up to me. I think it's time you took your advice too. You have to tell your mate everything."
"Tell him what?" Alpha Leo asked, as he walked into the room.
S POV
"Where the hell is that old piece of shit?" I asked, fuming. I and one of the pack elders agreed to meet here today. We were to meet over an hour ago, but the pack elder was nowhere to be found. I just hoped I was stood up.Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
He was lucky that I needed him. If that was not the case, I would have taught him a lesson or two. I could have gone for the other pack elders, but the one I was to meet today was the only person willing to do anything for money. I could convince the rest if I wanted to, though.
Everybody had a price after all. Just that, theirs night be too pricey, so I decided to go for what I could afford. Sadly, what I could afford was unprofessional.
I made a mental note to strip his position off him when I finally become the Alpha. How dare he keep me waiting?
The pack elder I was waiting for finally arrived and I heaved a sigh of relief. He was late, but at least he was here.
"What do you want me to do?" The pack elder asked immediately he got to where I was. "I did your father's dirty work, but that does not mean I am ready to do yours."
I clenched my fists. What on heck was he saying? "So, you came here to tell me that you're not helping."
He looked away from me.
"What if I told you that I could be Alpha and that I could make you my right hand man if you help me?"
