Second Thoughts After Divorce

Chapter 80

Chapter 80

Rose’s POV

-6 weeks later-

“How does it feel?” Doctor Carter questions, rotating my foot once more as I nod a little and fight back on showing any sign of emotion with my face.

“Hurts when it moves this way doesn’t it?” He presses me further, turning it to the right once more as I tighten my lips and shake my head stiffly.

I don’t want to wear that boot for another day longer! It was a pain in the ass at this point – it’s been so long now!

“Tell the truth Rose!” Ashton warms, as I huff out in sheer frustration and throw my head back like a stubborn child.

“I just hate wearing the boot now – but it hurts a little but I want to try something else!” 1 admit, my voice quiet as Doctor Carter laughs at my admission and releases my ankle for the first time in ten minutes.

He turns back to his clipboard and writes some notes before placing it aside to look back at us both.

“Ok here’s the deal, I’ll bump you down on to a sturdy ankle support? The bullet wound seems to be messing up the ligaments on the right hand side of your ankle so let’s try you on that and if it’s too painful, let me know and we might need to go back to the boot for a while longer!” Doctor Carter suggests, as my face lights up a little at the improvement.

At least he’s willing to let me try something else… I’ll take that over wearing the moon boot!

“Are you sure she will manage with just the ankle strap on it?!” Ashton stands from his position and looks uncertain, as I nod frantically to silently tell him that I’ll manage fine.

He glances at me briefly, completely ignoring my desperation as he decides to put my safety first as Doctor Carter pauses to think on it again.

Please don’t change your mind… not after getting my hopes up!

“Let her try, the challenge might be a good form of physio towards her healing fully it will push her to challenge the muscles and to build back strength.” Doctor Carter thankfully stands by his decision as Ashton huffs and nods once in final agreement with his choice.

I was glad that he left it there, the smile spreading across my face at the little achievement and progress we had made

My heart skips at the joyous day that I no longer have to waddle around in a huge sturdy ass boot that I can barely even walk in – hopefully now this will stop everyone in the pack from staring at me in wonder of what I went through…

I hated the odd looks I would get, or the pitiful ones every time we went out anywhere together and at least now the ankle strap would be far legs noticeable!

“As for the baby, everything’s growing as it should- and you’re finally starting to show which is nice! Is there any other questions on that?” He continues with the appointment, as I chew my lip and think on it, glancing down at my little bump.

I did have questions… but I didn’t quite know how to word them in case they would worry Ashton or raise concerns that he didn’t yet have.

“Whatever is on your mind, just say it Rose, this is about making you comfortable and prepared for this.” Ashton’s hand finds my back, giving me an ounce of courage to express what I was really fearing

I may as well just ask the dreaded question…

Or I’ll be stuck worrying about it for more weeks

Uh.. so there is one thing…” I admit, as Doctor Carter turns and gives me his full attention and Ashton remains silent to give me the floor to speak.

“Go on dear?” He states, as I inhale a deep breath and close my eyes over before opening them back up again a moment later in preparation for what I

“How will we know if the baby is… you know? Strong?” I tried to find the right words to not sound like an idiot and to avoid raising red flags for Ashton who maybe hasn’t considered this specific fact yet.

“The baby is strong and is growing as it should nothing to worry about there believe me!” The Doctor dismisses as I instantly shake my that he didn’t quite understand what I was saying.

head knowing

I look to Ashton, hopeful that he knew what I meant but he offered me a blank response as I knew then that I would have to be way more direct with

What I’m really trying to say is… what if our baby is like me… born a r–runt? The Alphas baby born a runt wolf… that won’t look great for the pack, will it?” I whisper out my words, avoiding both of their eyes in fear of facing a disapproving look from either of them.

It was a real concern of mine that had festered in the past few weeks of processing the whole pregnancy. What if the baby was born weak and what if deep down, Ashton was embarrassed or ashamed about it….

I know that he accepted me, but that didn’t mean to say that he would he thrilled about having a runt child….

I don’t think he would ever admit it, but I feared that I would be able to tell how he truly felt on the matter. What if it’s a boy? Next in line for the title and it’s born with my runt blood – put at an immediate disadvantage?

He wouldn’t be able to defend the pack or himself very well for that matter the thought alone would continue to eat me alive!

“Well uh, that may be a possibility yes, but a very small one. With the Alphas blood being so strong the baby has more of a chance of taking on that same strength, as I would imagine that it will overpower your own blood. However, there is ways we can help strengthen the baby if they are in fact born a runt so you shouldn’t worry too much over that until it happens if it does” Doctor Carters voice meets my ears as I remain staring down at the floor beneath me. I breathe slowly in and out, feeling suddenly flushed and overwhelmed talking about the matter out loud for the first time.

“Will you give us a minute?” 1 hear Ashton ask, before shuffling is heard and the door is closed over which I’m assuming means now that Doctor Carter had left.

With curiosity getting the better of me, I peak up, finding Ashton staring down at me with a pitiful look before he moves to sit down beside me on the

bed

Why is that your main concern?”

?” He asks, his tone fair and quizzical

“I just, don’t want to let you down. You chose me to be your mate and the mother of your children and now I fear that I’ll ruin your strong bloodline…. that I’ll ruin everything you have ever built?” I ramble, my eyes watering as I fight back the tears not wanting to have a breakdown over this.

Hold it together!

“Nonsense Rose! I don’t give a shit about what they are or how they are born as long as they are happy and healthy – as are you!” Ashton reaches to take my hand in his much larger one, bringing my hand up to his lips to kiss my knuckles tenderly in comfort.

He was a real sweetheart when nobody was around, and I always appreciated the softer side that I got to see to him besides his harsh Alpha exterior.

“Thank you… but I know that deep down you’ll want a strong child to take on this pack in the future… why wouldn’t you?” I argue my point, turning to look at him only to find his face growing out in to a smile.

I squint in confusion, staring at him as though he had just grown two heads as I struggle to comprehend why he was smiling in the heat of this very serious topic…

“So you can read my mind now can you?” He mocks, as my lips part in shock at his joke,

“This isn’t funny Ash! I’m serious here! I know that it matters to you – it must!” 1 panic, waving my free hand around like a mad woman as 1 talk, only causing Ashtons smile to grow wider if at all possible.

“How do you know what I think on the matter sweetheart? Behave yourself and stop telling me how I feel about it! Long story short, if the kid doesn’t want to be the future Alpha or Luna then so be it! Maybe Hunt or Sawyers kid will step up instead? We can’t predict the future but there will always be choes to make of course I want strong children, but you heard the Doctor when he said we can do shit to help with that. As for the whole future Alpha and running this pack, this was my dream Rose not theirs. They can make their own choices further down the line, Ashton finishes, as my lip trembles slightly at his words.

My Alpha
