“Am I right?” Gwen’s mocking voice came through the receiver.
Jake showed no signs of remorse. “You really don’t have the ability to confront Anthony right now, I’m just looking out for you.”
“Save your hypocrisy. Get him to come after me directly if he has an issue!”
The call ended abruptly. As Jake stared at the darkened screen, a flicker of anger at her rejection passed through his eyes. What a foolish woman! He wanted to see how she would handle this.
In the front seat, his assistant reported, “Mr. Hall, Cedar just informed me that there are some issues with the project in Findley, and they need you to go there in person.”
Jake closed his eyes to suppress his anger. “Understood. Book the earliest flight.”
The business in Findley was crucial, which was why he had sent Cedar there to oversee it.
Recently, the company had been busier than ever, noticeably more so than when Gwen was around.
It was best that she experienced some challenges. Extending an olive branch and getting her to work for him again would be easier when she had nothing left.
After ending the call, Gwen turned and found Leon restraining Ryan from rushing in to interrupt. Once the call was over, he finally let go.
“Why did you stop me? I wanted to help Gwen confront that scumbag!”

Initially feeling down after the call, Gwen found her spirits lifted at the sight of her brothers. How could she be against the world? Behind her were her most important family and friends.
