Chapter 1098 Trapped
Artemis stood still, squinting at her retreating figure. The uneasy premonition in his heart grew stronger.
He had the uncanny feeling that everything that had happened was deliberately orchestrated by
someone else.
It felt like falling into a meticulously set trap.
That feeling left him at a loss, even evoking a strong sense of crisis.
If Rebecca hadn't rushed over, he might not have noticed anything unusual.
However, Rebecca arrived almost at the same time as him, which must mean they had received the
information simultaneously. After all, the chances of such a coincidence happening were slim to none.
Artemis' rationality told him not to proceed any further, or else he would surely fall into someone else's
trap.
However, he couldn't just stand by and watch Rebecca march towards her death without doing
anything.
Setting aside the fact that she was the top commander of Interpol, his affection for her over the past
few years alone wouldn't allow him to abandon her.
After standing still for a few seconds, he finally darted off to catch up.
The hot spring pool was silent. The rising mist significantly hindered his line of sight.
The moment Rebecca rushed in from outside, she instantly regretted it.
After all, being the head of Interpol, her acuity and insight were top-notch. Once she calmed down, she
immediately noticed something out of the ordinary.
The information they had received along the way was strikingly similar, as if an invisible hand was
gently guiding them closer to that place.
Only when she finally reached her destination did she suddenly realize she had been tricked.
After forcing herself to calm down, she began to survey her surroundings.
The hot spring pool was built against the mountain, connected on three sides to sheer cliffs. Directly
ahead was a large open space, leading straight to the winery.
If someone were to be hidden within a mountain, it would undoubtedly be a massive undertaking. It
was impossible for such a thing to happen without any rumors spreading.
After a thorough analysis, she concluded that the hostages were not there at all. They had indeed been
tricked.
With that thought, she didn't linger any longer, turning around to prepare to return the way she came.
At that moment, a few gunshots echoed from the fog outside, and her face instantly changed.
Next, Artemis stumbled his way in.
He was injured. A bullet had pierced through his shoulder, creating a clean exit wound. Fresh blood
was steadily pulsing out from both the entry and exit wounds. Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Rebecca rushed forward to support him, then swiftly guided him behind a faux mountain. “What's going
on?”
Artemis tightly pressed his thin lips together, suppressing the pain, and spat, “There's a sniper. It
seems the enemy really wants to see me dead. Fine by me. I'm not afraid of them making a move.
What I fear is them not taking action. Now that they've made their move, it's like they've torn open a
gap. We just need to hold out for five minutes. Ken will bring people to level this place. I believe he will
definitely be able to catch one or two useful individuals.”
Rebecca's gaze fell on his blood-soaked shoulder. She gritted her teeth and said, “It seems like an
artery has been hit. We must stop the bleeding immediately.”
After she finished speaking, she helped him sit down, and then reached out to tug at his shirt.
Artemis' pupils constricted as he instinctively reached out to hold her fingers. Hoarsely, he said, “A
woman shouldn't be touching me.”
Rebecca was amused by his words, and a flame of fury in her heart was thoroughly ignited. “We once
played the part of lovers, and I've been intimately close to you more than once. Although we never
crossed the line, I've seen every part of you except one particular spot. What, now that you have a
fiancée, you've become all prudish?”
Artemis didn't speak. He stubbornly held her hand.
Once a rule was broken, there would be a second time or even a third time.
He didn't want to cause trouble for himself, so he would rather die than cross the line.
Rebecca sneered, “At this rate of bleeding, you won't last five minutes. Tsk, tsk, tsk, looks like Bailey is
going to be a widow.”
Artemis was speechless.
Taking advantage of his momentary daze, Rebecca swiftly extended her other hand, tearing open the
fabric on his shoulder with a swift pull.
A cold glint flashed in Artemis' eyes as he raised his hand to strike her.
Rebecca didn't dodge. She simply took out a hemostatic medicine and gauze from her waist.
A fierce wind howled in her ears. If his punch were to truly land, she feared she might be sent flying
several meters away by him.
A second later, the anticipated pain did not come.
Subconsciously, Rebecca looked up, only to see Artemis' fist hovering less than a centimeter from her
forehead. She couldn't help but grin. “You may as well calm down. After all, I was trained by you. It'll be
truly strange if you could bring yourself to harm me. Relax a bit. I'll stitch you up quickly, then sprinkle
some hemostatic medicine and cover it with gauze. Your clothes are already torn. We can't let it be for
nothing, right?”
Artemis' handsome face tensed up as he slightly turned it away.
Rebecca wasn't in the mood to appreciate the beauty before her eyes. She started to focus on her task
earnestly.
As time passed, a fine layer of sweat began to form on her forehead.
Artemis realized something was amiss after she finished stitching.
The warmth of her fingers kept escalating until it felt as if they had turned into branding irons. It seemed
as if...
Without thinking, he reached out and grasped her wrist, gritting his teeth as he said, “Haven't you
noticed anything unusual?”
Naturally, Rebecca had noticed. If she hadn't picked up on such an obvious change, she might as well
be dead. What would she be doing as the head of Interpol then? “Yes. There seems to be an issue with
the steam rising from this hot spring. It appears to contain elements of a stupefying drug, capable of
catalyzing emotions within the human body.”
Artemis abruptly closed his eyes, his voice deep as he said, “Stay away from me. The dosage of this
medicine is quite strong.”
Rebecca raised her eyebrow and smiled. “What's the matter? Are you afraid you won't be able to
control yourself and do something to me? If that's the case, then it couldn't be better. I've been hoping
for this for many years, and finally my wish will come true.”
"Rebecca," Artemis managed to say, his voice trembling as the fog greatly affected him.
Rebecca lowered her head slightly, continuing to bandage him, ignoring his resistance.
In truth, he was powerless against her. Wounded by a bullet and drugged, his strength was almost
gone. He struggled to move, let alone overpower her.
"If we can't hold on until the end, can we at least give each other a chance? You don't want to die, do
you? You have a wife and children. There are so many ties in this world that bind you. Let's just do this
once. I won't tell anyone. Let this intimate moment be our secret. I believe that even if Bailey finds out
later, she will understand. After all, you're just trying to save yourself," Rebecca said.
"Shut up," Artemis roared menacingly.
Rebecca grinned.
She believed that a man like Artemis, who understood the balance of pros and cons, would seize the
opportunity for life.
With that said, she should be grateful to the person who orchestrated this situation, as it gave her the
chance to fulfill her dream.
If no one came to their rescue, she had to seize the opportunity to become his true partner.
She didn't care about the future. If she could be intimate with him, then she would have no regrets in
her life.
