Chapter 57 This Night was Meant to be Restless
The car started again. Lillian looked at the crystal bracelet around her wrist and now realized that Sebastian had never sent her any accessories. After they had got married, she hadn’t got a wedding ring, not even a band ring.
They hadn’t held a wedding ceremony to begin with, so how would she get a wedding ring? However, the reason Sebastian sent her a crystal bracelet today was to cover the mark he left around her wrist.
Lillian gave a wry smile. Such a glittering and beautiful crystal bracelet adorned her swollen wrist, but the only thing she felt now was the pain from rubbing.
It turned out that what lay underneath glamor was simply pain.
Outside the banquet hall for the anniversary celebration, the red carpet was long settled. Many stars had already walked down the red carpet into the hall under the spotlight amid screams from thrilled fans.
Of course, the stars dressed up. Autumn just arrived and it was cool now. Deep V-neck, high slit, slip dress and lace… Everyone looked extremely sensuous and stunning in these designer ball gowns.
Men dressed up as well. Their suits were accessorized with cufflinks and pocket squares, while their hair was meticulously styled with pomade, shiny and sleek.
The car stopped. Through the window, Lillian could see the massive media throng and groups of fans, between whom laid a long red carpet. An A-list actress was walking down the aisle, and the flashes were so bright that one would find it hard to keep his eyes open.
Lillian saw that actress’ smooth bare back. Amid screams from media reporters, she raised her chin slightly and gave a proud smile. Undoubtedly, it felt fantastic to be everyone’s favorite.
Lillian cast a look at the strapless gown she chose for herself. Compared to those beauties and stars on the red carpet, she was rather conservatively-dressed by only showing her fair shoulders.
Someone came and opened the car door for them. At that instant, all the spotlights were drawn to them. Sebastian got off the car composedly, his expression unchanged. When he stood firm, he stretched out his hand to Lillian, who was still in the car.
Seeing that Sebastian appeared, the media naturally put their focus on him, while no one saw Lillian yet because she was sitting in the car.
All the media reporters believed that it must be Joanna again accompanying Sebastian celebrating the anniversary this time. Ever since the day when Sebastian had started to build up her popularity, his female companion had been Joanna all the time, and no other woman was ever seen next to him.
Therefore, when Lillian placed her hand into Sebastian’s and showed up in front of everyone helped by him, an uproar was caused in the crowd!
For a moment, everyone present was stunned. Staring at the brand new couple, the crowd failed to respond for a time. The media reporters even forgot to take photos, while the fans were looking at them in confusion.
However, after a moment of silence came floods of flashes. The dazzling light kept the night bright as day, and the atmosphere reached the climax at this moment! The media reporters erupted, while the fans were astounded. The whole scene was in an uproar, and this night was meant to be restless!
Lillian had never been greeted with so many flashes at the same time and couldn’t adapt herself to it for a time. She dropped her eyes a little to avoid those glaring flashes.
When she lowered her head, Lillian saw her own hand being held in Sebastian’s. The bracelet around her wrist looked even more glittering under the flashes, but her eyes were stinging from the lightBelongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
reflected by those little diamonds, and the clamor faded out the moment she closed her eyes uncontrollably.
"What’s wrong?" Seeing that Lillian was being a little odd, Sebastian whispered in her ear.
Lillian came to her sense and saw Sebastian’s face before her eyes. The flashing light brightened his cheeks, and there seemed to be a hint of inconspicuous concern in his slight frown?
Lillian was almost moved. However, since she had spent nearly two years with Sebastian, she knew his personality well. How would he be concerned about her? He was just putting on a show.
Sebastian was the president of the biggest media company, and had superb public relation skills. His gentleness only belonged to Joanna, ever.
The moment they exchanged glances was naturally shot, and tomorrow’s front-page headlines could be "Sebastian looking right into her eyes"? Seemingly, Lillian was destined to play the role of the other woman.
"Why is that woman here? Where’s Joanna? We want Joanna!"
"This woman is simply a vixen! She must have played some tricks to drive our Joanna away. We can’t let her bully Joanna!"
"Right! She can’t take Joanna’s place!"
Many of Joanna’s fans had come. They saw the woman next to Sebastian became Lillian and screamed in the heat of the moment, about to kick down the barriers and rush towards Lillian.
The emergency plan was launched at once. Many security guards surged up to block the thrilled fans, but water bottles were still thrown over, and some people even took off their shoes and flung them at her!
Pandemonium broke out and the situation almost got out of hand for a time!
Sebastian put his arm around Lillian’s waist and took her in his arms with a grim face. Although the two of them weren’t hit by water bottles or shoes, they all landed in front of them.
Sebastian said to the assistant behind him in a cold voice, "Tell them to calm things down immediately, or they don’t have to come to work tomorrow!" He burst into a fury. What were the security guards doing? How could they allow the water bottles and shoes to land before him?
"Yes, President Palmer." The assistant turned around at once to transmit Sebastian’s order.
Lillian had never experienced anything like this before. Although she didn’t show it on her face, she still felt scared inside, and all she could do was be held in Sebastian’s arms helplessly.
Looking at the water bottles on the ground and listening to the angry screams from Joanna’s fans, Lillian thought to herself. See? Now everybody believed that the turtledove had taken over the nest of a magpie, but no one cared who the turtledove was and who the magpie was.
How pathetic she was! Lillian, the official wife, was considered the other woman, and at last, she was shouted abuse at for destroying someone else’s family!
Hearing what Sebastian said to his assistant, Lillian smiled bitterly. How could Sebastian blame the security guards for neglect of duty? If he hadn’t insisted on bringing her to such an occasion, how would Joanna’s fans have become furious, and such an uproar happened?
Therefore, sometimes Sebastian was being really selfish. He was totally aware that none of the reports would be partial to her and that her appearance would only cause public outrage. Did he want to mess the anniversary celebration up by taking her here?
Due to the emergency situation coming up unexpectedly, the red carpet show was stopped for now. Sebastian’s words might have worked. Half of the security guards were quelling the disturbances while the other half stopping the reporters from taking pictures.
However, such a drama would never restrain the reporters’ passion, and there were more flashes than just now.
Sebastian and Lillian went back into the car. They wouldn’t get off again until the security guards handled the heat outside.
"I told you I wasn’t the suitable one to show up with you for such an occasion. You’ve always brought Joanna with you, but why must you want me today?" Lillian tucked the stray pieces of hair behind her ear.
