Chapter 715

Chapter 715 Accepting Cayden As His Biological Father

Cayden extended his hand towards the driver. “May I borrow your phone?”

The back of his hand was rubbed raw, oozing a viscous liquid of red and white. The wound had already opened up, making for a rather gruesome sight.

The driver handed him his cell phone, unable to suppress a frown. “Mr. Moore, your injury needs to be treated...”

However, Cayden simply waved him off and directly made a call.

His cold voice softened immediately. “Ery, it's me...”

Once he heard Avery's panicked cries and learned about Blake's incident, Cayden's expression instantly turned grave and exuded an unprecedented seriousness. “Don't panic,” he said. “Stay at home and wait for me. I'll be back immediately.”

While speeding on the way back, Cayden contemplated how to capture Rupert while considering the matter of returning to his homeland.

Although the Dark River's base was discovered and destroyed by the Remdikian government, their cunning boss, Rupert, managed to escape. The government's crackdown had merely hurt the organization on the surface. As long as Rupert remained at large, he was a threat to Cayden and his family.

Rupert was cunning, malicious, and cruel. If he was not brought to justice, he would make a comeback

and retaliate against Cayden's family with greater intensity. Hence, Cayden absolutely could not ignore such an unpredictable factor.

However, Blake was Avery's grandfather, her most important relative who painstakingly raised her. Now that his life hung in the balance, he had to accompany her to see him no matter what.

The thoughts swirled in Cayden's mind like a raging storm. Imagining Avery in a state of panic and helplessness at home, he floored the accelerator.

Upon returning home, Cayden, through the car window, saw Avery entertaining Cal by drawing in the sand.

Yet, her mind was clearly not on the child. She kept glancing toward the door as if she was waiting for his return.

Upon seeing his car pull into the yard, Avery immediately stood up and rushed over. “Cayden...”

Cayden brought the car to a halt without even driving it into the garage.

Through the rearview mirror, he ascertained that the wound on his neck wasn't too severe. Only then did he open the car door and gracefully step out of the car with his long, slender legs.

As soon as he got out of the car, Avery threw herself into his arms, staring intently at his face. As expected, her gaze fell upon his injured neck.

She yearned to touch it with her hand, yet she dared not.

“Are you hurt? I tried calling you, but your phone was switched off...”

Avery wrapped her arms around his waist, whispering softly, “Cayden, you have no idea how worried I've been. I was so scared something had happened to you.”

Cayden had also suffered minor injuries to his abdomen. When Avery hugged him tightly, he felt as if a hammer was struck upon his flesh, causing him to wince in pain.

However, it happened for just a fleeting moment, after which he quickly returned to his usual self. “I was busy and didn't realize my phone had run out of battery.”

“What happened to your neck? Are there injuries anywhere else on your body?”

Avery anxiously held his hand, carefully examining it. Seeing the wound on the back of his hand, she felt her eyes sting as tears welled up in them. “Why were you so careless? Does it hurt a lot? Let me apply some medicine for you.”

“Don't worry, it's just a minor wound. I've applied some alcohol to disinfect it.”

Avery held his arm. Looking at his hand, she could see it bloodied with its skin peeled off. The pair of hands that she once loved, which were perfect and fair, had now become extraordinarily rough. The calluses in his palm clearly showed that he had endured a lot of hardship.

It was a heartbreaking sight to see.

Even though the wound wasn't on her own hand, Avery could feel her heart ache. Without saying a

word, she led him to the room.

Cal was drawing in the sand as he watched his mother lead his father toward the room.

Seeing that his father's hand seemed to still be bleeding, Cal didn't react as he usually would, where he would go against his father. Instead, he furrowed his delicate brows, sensing something was amiss.

After being influenced by Avery, he accepted the fact that Cayden was his biological father in his heart. However, he was still somewhat reluctant to admit it verbally.

Didn't Mommy say that Daddy is Superman? Superman doesn't get hurt, so why is Daddy bleeding?

“Cayden, does it hurt? If it does, let me know.” Inside the room, Avery opened the first aid kit, carefully disinfecting and bandaging Cayden's wound. While doing so, she could feel a lump in her throat.

Due to Sid's frequent habit of provoking Taron, which often resulted in him being beaten to a pulp, Vivian's mansion was equipped with a medical room. This room was stocked with all sorts of medical supplies and even diagnostic instruments. It had everything one could possibly need.

“Ara you hurt? I triad calling you, but your phona was switchad off...”

Avary wrappad har arms around his waist, whisparing softly, “Caydan, you hava no idaa how worriad I'va baan. I was so scarad somathing had happanad to you.”

Caydan had also suffarad minor injurias to his abdoman. Whan Avary huggad him tightly, ha falt as if a hammar was struck upon his flash, causing him to winca in pain.

Howavar, it happanad for just a flaating momant, aftar which ha quickly raturnad to his usual salf. “I was busy and didn't raaliza my phona had run out of battary.”

Avary anxiously hald his hand, carafully axamining it. Saaing tha wound on tha back of his hand, sha falt har ayas sting as taars wallad up in tham. “Why wara you so caralass? Doas it hurt a lot? Lat ma apply soma madicina for you.”

“Don't worry, it's just a minor wound. I'va appliad soma alcohol to disinfact it.”

Avary hald his arm. Looking at his hand, sha could saa it bloodiad with its skin paalad off. Tha pair of hands that sha onca lovad, which wara parfact and fair, had now bacoma axtraordinarily rough. Tha callusas in his palm claarly showad that ha had andurad a lot of hardship.

It was a haartbraaking sight to saa.

Evan though tha wound wasn't on har own hand, Avary could faal har haart acha. Without saying a word, sha lad him to tha room.

Cal was drawing in tha sand as ha watchad his mothar laad his fathar toward tha room.

Saaing that his fathar's hand saamad to still ba blaading, Cal didn't raact as ha usually would, whara ha would go against his fathar. Instaad, ha furrowad his dalicata brows, sansing somathing was amiss.

Aftar baing influancad by Avary, ha accaptad tha fact that Caydan was his biological fathar in his haart. Howavar, ha was still somawhat raluctant to admit it varbally.

Didn't Mommy say that Daddy is Suparman? Suparman doasn't gat hurt, so why is Daddy blaading?

“Caydan, doas it hurt? If it doas, lat ma know.” Insida tha room, Avary opanad tha first aid kit, carafully disinfacting and bandaging Caydan's wound. Whila doing so, sha could faal a lump in har throat.

Dua to Sid's fraquant habit of provoking Taron, which oftan rasultad in him baing baatan to a pulp, Vivian's mansion was aquippad with a madical room. This room was stockad with all sorts of madical supplias and avan diagnostic instrumants. It had avarything ona could possibly naad.

Cayden found it amusing how careful Avery was being.

He had endured far more severe injuries than those, ones that had nearly cost him his life. He was able to bear those, so the current one was a minor scratch in comparison, hardly worth being considered an injury.

Nevertheless, he was touched by her concern for him, so he gently pinched her nose and spoke in a soft and low voice. “This wound doesn't hurt at all, really. Look, I'm perfectly fine.”

His complete disregard for his own body made Avery somewhat angry. She forcefully pinched the

wound she had just bandaged for him.

Suddenly, a gut-wrenching pain coursed through Cayden's entire body, causing him to gasp in pain. “Hiss...”

Avery turned her back, ignoring him completely. She wore a scowl on her face as if he was the one who had done something wrong.

Cayden was somewhat amused and exasperated. He turned Avery's body toward him and said, “Alright, Darling. Stop making a fuss. Can you please tell me what's going on with your grandfather? You weren't very clear on the phone.”

Upon seeing what seemed like beads of blood seeping out from Cayden's palm, Avery immediately felt her heart break. Deep down, she regretted her earlier recklessness.

The mention of her grandfather caused her to worry. “Cayden, I must return home before tomorrow. Aunt Alina said that Grandpa may not hold on much longer... My grandfather and aunt are the only ones left in the Rumpley family. My aunt has always been plagued by illness. If anything happens to my grandfather, I really don't know how my aunt can continue living. On top of that, I don't even know what I would do...”

The sight that Cayden couldn't bear was Avery's sorrowful and pitiful face.

He gently stroked her somewhat pale cheeks, softly saying, “Don't be afraid. I'll take you back right away. No matter what, I'll make sure you get to see your gravely ill grandfather.”

He immediately called Taron, expressing his intention to return home.

After learning of Cayden's intentions at the other end of the line, Taron roared in frustration, “Have you lost your mind? Aren't you afraid of falling into Rupert's trap by returning to the country at this time? Rupert hasn't been caught yet and is not easy to deal with given how cunning and deceitful he is. Even with Xander and I working together, we haven't been able to catch him... Now that he is a cornered beast, he is capable of doing anything!”
