Chapter 60
Chapter 60
Aurelia could tell right off the bat, these folks weren’t planning on giving her an ounce of respect.
They were experienced designers, and they had harbored resentment towards her unconventional
promotion. Why on earth would they willingly work under her?
She returned to her desk, shooting a WhatsApp message off to Jenny and Darcy: [Let’s grab lunch
together, celebrate your promotions and raises.]
In crucial times, it was important to keep your men close.
Darcy responded immediately: [Manager Aurelia, can we invite Lily and Gary too?]
Aurelia got the hint, these were people willing to stand with her. [Anyone who wants to come is
welcome. I’m treating. Let’s hit up Starry Bites Diner for some seafood.]
After work, Aurelia and four colleagues descended in the elevator, only to run into Elowen in the lobby.
She was taken aback.
What was she doing here? The big boss was still on a business trip in Europe and wasn’t due back
until next
week. She knew that.
“Ms. Elowen, the big boss isn’t back yet.”
“I know, I’m here for you,” Elowen stated bluntly.
Aurelia was speechless. Was Elowen here to start a fight? She hadn’t crossed Elowen recently.
“Ms. Elowen, I’ve planned a dinner with my colleagues today, I might not have time.”
Elowen leaned in, whispering in her ear, “I heard there’s a newcomer in the Design Department named
Evelyn. She’s your strong competitor. Don’t you want to know about her?”
Aurelia was taken aback. How did Elowen get her information so quickly? Even the minor details?
She instructed Jenny and the others to go ahead to Starry Bites Diner to order, and followed Elowen to
the outdoor garden.
“So, Ms. Elowen, you know Evelyn?”
“Of course,” Elowen revealed a slightly sinister smile, “She has a sister named Megan Alcott. They’ve
been playing with Leopold since they were kids. Megan thought she could replace me and marry
Leopold, but even fate didn’t favor her. She died, and they didn’t even find her body.”
What? Aurelia was stunned!
Was Megan the boss‘ lost love as the rumors suggested?
Emily mentioned that Evelyn had a close relationship with the big boss, but she couldn’t guess what
exactly
it was
So that was it!
While she was lost in shock, Elowen’s voice came again, “You made quite a name for yourself at the
Paris Jewelry Exhibition. You should’ve been promoted to director, but now that she’s here, your
position might be up in the air. Leopold is extremely indulgent towards her. It wouldn’t surprise me if he
fet her become the
vice CEO.”
Even though Aurelia thought Elowen was exaggerating, favoritism was not something to be ignored.
If that’s the case, why should she even bother competing?
The big boss always said he had a clear distinction between work and personal affairs, but who would
believe that? More like favoritism!
Tm actually okay with it. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll just switch jobs. But Ms. Elowen, you should be more
careful. Keep an eye on the big boss, so you don’t lose him.”
She could tell Elowen was trying to pit her against Evelyn, hoping they’d fight and ruin each other.
She refused to be the scapegoat. Let the two love rivals fight, while she played the role of the
bystander.
Elowen sneered, “I’m the designated daughter–in–law by his father. No one can replace me.”
Aurelia sighed, “You need more than just the man, you need his heart. If Evelyn steals his heart, it’ll be
harder to get it back than reaching the moon.”
Her words hit a nerve, causing Elowen to flinch, but she remained composed, “You don’t need to
concern yourself with my affairs. You should focus on how to get Evelyn out of the company.” With that,
she turned and left
From a distance, Evelyn approached, having witnessed the entire exchange.
“Are you and Ms. Elowen close, Manager Aurelia?”
Aurelia shrugged, “Ms. Elowen is Mr. Leopold’s fiancée. We went to France together, so naturally we
get a bit
familiar.”
Evelyn lowered her gaze, revealing a hint of sadness, “If my sister were still alive, she and Leo might C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.
be married by now. The person Leo loves is my sister, not Ms. Elowen.”
