Chapter 23
KAEL.
"Who gave Adessa to you as a gift?" I asked.
I didn't want to believe that anyone around me could have done this. But at this point, I knew everything was possible even friends could be enemies in the shadow.
Was she abducted by someone from my pack and handed to Draco's brother? Or was she taken by them the moment she stepped out of my border?
"Answer me!" My patience was running thin.
Instead of answering, Draco let out a sarcastic chuckle and shook his head. "Are we friends?"
I already knew what would come after this, and I was right. He would never tell me more.
"Why would I tell you? I'm not going to help you weed out the snakes in your prairie, Kael. Go figure it out yourself."
I was so close to throwing another curse on his face, but I stopped myself. I didn't want to add more to the arrogance in him. I would not let him laugh at me any more.
"Then, I guess my time is up here." I patted my Delta's back and turned around, heading toward the car.
"Are you not going to send any condolences for the death of my brother?"
"No. I'm sure he got what he deserves." I answered without stopping from walking.
I opened the door and was about to get in when he spoke again, but this time, I stopped and looked at him.
"Make sure you find your wife before I do. And make sure you hide her well because once I get my hands on her, she'll regret pulling that trigger on my brother and running away from me. I will make sure she will live for the rest of her days being reminded of that moment."
"You are a fucking coward for aiming to put justice in your hands against a female you and your brother were obviously trying to abduct. I will make sure you will never touch even a strand of her hair. So, throw your threat somewhere else. I'm not terrified of you." I told him before slipping into my seat and closing my door.
I didn't need to say more. Landon immediately drove away.
"Is Stefan still our head tracker?" I asked.
"Yes, do you want me to call him?"
"I'll do that. Drive me back to Corrine's apartment. I need more information from her." I told him before pressing the number to call Stefan.
I made my call short, ordering him to send men to track Adessa in all cities connected to Bayson Bay and expanding forward if they couldn't find her there. I also advise all details must be directed to me and not to Dexter or Landon.
"Did you ever think it was me who gave Adessa to them?" Landon asked as I dropped the call. He heard about my instructions.
"I don't know what to think anymore."NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
The rest of the ride was spent in silence. Landon and I would occasionally talk, and he would answer my questions. I didn't want to doubt him, but at this point, I couldn't trust anyone but myself.
After I spoke with Corrine and found out Adessa had not contacted her yet, I left her my number and told her to let me know of any news of her. I also left her cash so if Adessa called and needed money, she could send it to her.
I went to Bayson Bay with a confused heart, but I was returning home with a more fucked-up mind and heart.
"Did you know why I got into an accident? What accident was it?" In all the turmoil of Adessa leaving, I didn't even have time to think of my own accident.
"It was a car accident. The car was speeding, and Onald lost control, so it flipped over."
"How's Onald?"
""He's dead."
"What?" Goosebumps rose from my skin. No one even told me that.
"I was not there when they rescued you, but they said his legs got stuck, so when the car exploded, he was inside."
"And me?"
"You don't have a seat belt, so they were assuming you flew out of the windshield as they found you unconscious meters away from the car." "Is there foul play?"
"Dexter is the one coordinating with the investigation team. The case was closed, and they ruled that it was Onald's speed that caused him to lose control." "Did Miranda contact Onald's family?"
"Luna Adessa did. She was present for nearly an hour each night during his wake. I know because I drove her there. She helped them financially and offered scholarships for Onald's kids until they graduated. The Luna coordinated the wake and the funeral. A big help to his grieving wife, as they didn't have any families around."
I didn't have anything to say, so I just listened as he continued.
"I heard Luna Miranda was pissed
off with the scholarship she offered
and told her she should have waited until you woke up to make a decision because you might not have agreed to it as Onald caused the accident. Luna Adessa was firm with her decision and said she knew you would never disagree with that regardless of who caused the accident, as, at the end of the day, his family was left without a father. She also added, that in case you overturned her decision, she was willing to use her own money to pay for those kids, and if needed, she would also work to get more money."
"She said that?"
"Yes. The tension was palpable over dinner when they had the argument, as your stepmother wouldn't back down as well. Luna Adessa even warned her not to interfere with that subject or change anything, as she had already made a decision. Of course, your stepmother didn't like that and shouted at her. She accused her of being a gold digger. That it was the Luna who caused your accident because she wanted to be the Alpha of this pack..."
My forehead creased.
"That's bullshit." Landon shook his head. "I was supposed to drive you that day. I could have been the dead guy..." "What happened?"
"Luna Adessa wanted to come with
you, and you refused. She kept
insisting until a little disagreement broke out that you were always away, and all she wanted was to spend time with you. She said she could stay in the car and just sit there while you do your business so she wouldn't get in the way. You still said no. In the end, she walked away, clearly upset." He paused and let out a breath. “So you asked me to stay behind and offer the Luna to drive around and shop. We both knew you couldn't bribe her like that, but you still let me stay and take Onald instead, so if the Luna decided
she wanted to have a breather, I
could guard her."
I remained silent, letting his words sink in before I spoke. "So if I had taken her with me, it could have been the three of us."
I nodded. "You have no idea how Luna kept blaming herself for not insisting on coming with you. She said if she were there and I was the one driving, I would never speed off, as she would always scold me when I did." "Was she sad when I was in a coma?"
