Chapter 66
ADESSA.
It was not Kael's wolf. Someone found me.
Instead of running back to Kael as I originally planned, I spun around and started to sprint away. But this time, I went to where I saw many trees that were closer to each other. I had no idea how far I could run before it would reach me. All I knew was I needed to survive so I could find Kael.
I kept looking back, and when I was sure the wolf was treading the same path I took, including maneuvering himself on narrow bushes and trees, I ran head-on to the two trees standing close to each other and slipped my thin frame in between them, hoping his momentum would not let him steer away from this path.
My body landed on the other side with a big thud, and I immediately turned around, hands gripping the earth as I anticipated his next move.
With wide eyes, I watched as the wolf leaped into the air, only for his body to be trapped between the two trees.
He growled loudly, saliva dripping and eyes dilating as he struggled to break free.
I grabbed the big stone nearby and threw it at his face. It went directly to his eye, angering him more.
I had to run, but even before I could push myself off the ground, I felt warmth enveloping my whole body-something I had never experienced in my whole life.
My heart thudded loudly as I saw smoke rise from my skin, and it also caught the wolf's eyes, causing him to stop moving and stare at me.
I raised my hands and looked at my palms. I was not hallucinating a golden smoke was rising from them.
A growl reverberated from the wolf's chest, and I heard branches snapping and breaking. I immediately inched backward, watching with wide eyes as the wolf slowly destroyed the tree that trapped him until he managed to escape.
I knew I should get up. I knew I should run. But my body was rendered immobile as fear coursed through my veins, and the only thing I was able to do was scream my loudest the moment the wolf leaped in the air, ready to attack me.
My hands flew, and I was about to cover my head with my arms when a shadow came and intercepted his jump.
Before I knew it, Kael's wolf was rolling with him on the other side.
I watched with fear as they fought, but it didn't take long before Kael overpowered him and shoved him away. He threw the wolf against a tree, but it was able to balance itself right away. He stood up and, without any hesitation, ran off-away from us. Kael immediately shifted back into his human form, and without his black fur, the blood trickling down his shoulder was visible.
"Are you okay?" He asked me, but I could see pain in his expression. His face was pale, and he was having a hard time breathing.
"Kael!" I yelled as I pushed my body up when I saw him crumble to his feet.
He dropped to his knees, his hand holding his wounded shoulder.
"Oh, Goddess. Show me..." I told him as I stood before him.
He groaned as he lowered his hand but immediately wrapped his arms around my waist and buried his face in my stomach, hugging me tightly-as if drawing strength from me.
He was shot, and blood was everywhere on his body.
With trembling hands, I covered his wounds with my palms to stop the bleeding as I fought my tears.
I must remove the bullet from his skin. But how?
The warmth I felt earlier came back, centering on my palms. And then Kael's body jolted, making me loosen my hold on him.
He stared at me dumbfounded before asking. "What did you do?"
"What? Nothing." I mumbled.
He didn't say more and tilted his
head to look at his shoulder. I slowly moved my hands away from covering his wound, and my eyes widened as my mouth hung open.
The head of the bullet was already at the opening. But it was still not possible to pull it out.
"Do it again?" He said without taking his eyes off his bloodied wound.
"I didn't do..." I paused and remembered the warmth that enveloped my hand. I had no explanation, but I was willing to do anything to save him.
I placed my hands over his shoulder again and mumbled in my head. 'I must remove the bullet from his skin.'
The warmth returned, and the smoke glided around my hands.Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
My heart was hammering in my chest. I had no idea what kind of sorcery was happening, but it didn't matter as long as it could save Kael.
I felt something nudging on my palm, and I was right. Once I removed my hand, the bullet rolled off from his shoulder down to the ground.
We just looked at each other. No one
said a word, but I nodded my head
at him before placing my hands over his shoulder again. This time, wished for his wound to be cleaned and closed. en
And, like a dream, it happened, and I had no explanation for it.
Kael stood up as if earlier he was not in pain while I was just looking at him, biting my inner cheek so hard as if it could give me an answer.
He cupped my face, and I immediately smelled blood from his hands. I was sure my face was smeared with it.
"Thank you!" He was smiling so widely as he kissed me.
As much as I wanted to return his kiss, I was still baffled. Did I really heal him? But how?
"Let's go." He said, snapping me back to the present.
"Wait!" I stopped him. "I don't know what happened."
"Me, too. We'll talk about it later. First, we need to get away from here. I hid their car keys. We just need to get back there and use their car."
"But the other wolf?" I was referring to the one that ran away.
"He ran in another direction. If he returns to his car, I can take him. All others are dead." He explained before letting me know he would shift into his wolf again. I just let him decide for us and did as I was told.
In no time was back on his wolf's
back, and he sped off toward the enemy's car, unaware that a set of
eyes the same wolf we thought had already fled-was watching us.
en
He witnessed me healing Kael.
