Whispers Of Betrayal (Anastasia and Alastor)

Chapter 187

Chapter 187

Ultimately, the child couldn’t be saved.

Even though it had only been a few months, Anastasia had sacrificed too much for it.

She stopped receiving treatment and stopped taking painkillers. Anastasia gritted her teeth and persevered, no matter how excruciating the pain was.

Actually, Anastasia had prepared herself to become a mother.

However, things did not go as she wished.

When Anastasia woke up, the ward was quiet, and she could faintly hear Jayden’s voice.

Her fingers felt weak, and Anastasia had a severe headache.

Perhaps due to the effects of the anesthesia, Anastasia couldn’t feel the pain from her wound yet.

Nonetheless, she knew that the child could not be saved.

Tears streamed down her cheeks as Anastasia silently stared at the ceiling for a very long time.

Perhaps even the heavens deemed her unworthy of being a mother.

She didn’t have the qualifications.

She was also unable to provide a complete family for the child.

The child, like her, would grow up in a single-parent family.

“Harold confessed. Harold claimed that attempting to murder Anastasia was a spur-of-the-moment decision. Harold made no mention of being instigated by anyone. Harold also admitted to attempting to assault Anastasia at Zeke’s residence six years ago. The evidence is solid, and he has pleaded guilty,” Jayden explained.

Jayden sat next to Jason and handed the latter a bottle of water.

Jason had remained outside Anastasia’s ward the entire time. Jason never left.

Anastasia was still under observation. According to the doctor, her survival was entirely by chance.

“There must be someone behind Harold.” Jason was certain of it. Harold would not have been able to hide so well otherwise. Just like when Sienna suddenly disappeared, there had to be someone behind it. At the very least, someone was pulling the strings.

“Of course. If there had not been someone helping Harold, he would not have been able to go straight to her room. The surveillance footage showed that he did not wander around but went straight to his destination, knocked on the door, and harmed Anastasia.” Jayden furrowed his brows before continuing, “Let’s hope that the police will find more clues.”

“Check Harold’s bank account to see if he has received any large sums of money in the last few years, and then follow that lead, Jason instructed Jayden.

Jayden nodded. “What about you? Are you fine staying here? Alastor is undoubtedly a jerk. Anastasia has not even awakened yet, and he is already gone.”

Jason frowned. “I’m fine. You can go.”

“The patient is awake.” A nurse came out and informed them while they were talking.

Hearing that, Jason quickly stood up and hurried into the room. “Annie…”

Anastasia looked at Jason, who was standing at the door, but she did not say anything for a long time.

“The perpetrator has been caught,” Jason spoke first to comfort Anastasia.

“Baby…” Anastasia’s voice was hoarse.

Jason was standing next to the hospital bed. Jason lowered his head and avoided looking Anastasia in the eyes.

“My baby couldn’t be saved. I should have known better.” Anastasia let out a bitter laugh. In the end, fate was against her.

She had known from the start that the child could not be saved. Nonetheless, the child stubbornly tried to survive in her womb.

Given the child’s determination, Anastasia wanted to give the child the opportunity to see the world.

However, it was unfortunate.

“Take care of yourself. The wound isn’t deep, and it didn’t affect any major organs,” Jason reassured her in a soft voice.

“Where’s Alastor?” Anastasia waited for a while, but Alastor did not appear.

“He just left after answering the phone.” Jason did not lie. Alastor had indeed been waiting outside the operating room the entire time. Before Anastasia woke up, he received a phone call and left.

“Has he found out about the child?” Anastasia asked. Anastasia guessed that for the procedure to be carried out, Alastor would have to sign the documents. Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.

Jason nodded in response.

It was likely karma for Alastor.

He did not want the baby at first, but he had to choose to abandon it twice in the end.

It also severed all ties between him and Anastasia.

“Do you know who is instructing Harold?” Anastasia had a blank expression on her face.

She had been looking for Harold for years but had been unable to locate him, and now he had emerged from hiding on his

own.

Based on Anastasia’s understanding of Harold, Meredith, and Sienna, Harold would never risk his life to come and kill her for the sake of Meredith and Sienna.

He had to be benefiting from it in some way.

Most likely, someone had given Harold a substantial sum of money.

Anastasia had a bad feeling. The person behind this could be related to her true identity, which Harold had revealed to her.
