Chapter 103 Bankruptcy
“Douglas! How can your dad possibly do that? If he had known Mr. Songsmith, we wouldn’t be
bankrupt!” came a woman’s crying voice. As Douglas had put her on speakers, everyone around him
could hear the voice loud and clear.
The Murrays were stupefied. The Jeffersons have gone bankrupt?
“Mom! Mom, what’s going on? Our family was doing fine. How can this be? There’s no way this
happened!” Douglas had been ready to have his father cooperate with his show, but the news he’d just
learned was far too shocking.
He could not take it at all, and his body trembled from the surprise. Even though he had studied
overseas, the truth was that his father had to spend money to make sure he was admitted into the
university. Douglas was no top scorer at all.
“They’ve found out something about our shop. They’ve found out that we’re selling high-quality
counterfeits bags. We have to pay a large sum of compensation, and we’re getting a huge sum of fine
too. The cops have already taken your father away!”
Douglas lost his mind upon hearing his mother’s words. He screamed, “No! No! No way!” This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
At that moment, Douglas had lost everything. He was no longer the son of a rich man, and that
revelation made him quake in his boots as he came close to a mental breakdown.
Like a clown, Douglas fell on his bottom.
Simultaneously, a disappointed look appeared on Scarlett’s face. She had thought that Douglas was a
good choice for a partner, but now, Douglas was penniless, just like Christopher.
All of a sudden, a thought hit Douglas. He quickly clambered to his feet and grabbed Fabian’s hands
before crying out, “Mr. Murray, do you know anyone who can help us? Please help my family!”
Fabian sighed. “Douglas, our family is just an ordinary family. We neither have money nor power, so
there’s nothing we can do either.”
“Scarlett, please ask your father to help us! Didn’t you say that your family is well-connected?” Douglas
was in the throes of despair, and even his voice was shaking.
“Don’t you know what shame is, Douglas Jefferson? I can’t believe you’re actually pleading for help
from our family. My boyfriend shouldn’t be a wimp like you. The one I want to marry in the future is a
rich man, not a penniless person like you. It’s over between us. We broke up, so get lost!” Scarlett
shouted at Douglas as she looked at him in disgust.
Douglas had never thought that Scarlett and Fabian would be as merciless as that. In his fury, he
roared, “I was blind to have fallen for a b*tch like you! I hope your family will lose everything you own!”
With that, Douglas ran off in the direction of his family’s store.
“F*ck, what’s wrong with him? Thank god he has already gone bankrupt. I can’t believe he dared to
curse at me. I should’ve beaten him up,” Fabio grumbled.
Christopher watched as Douglas disappear from his line of sight without a trace of sympathy. He would
have been fine with Douglas degrading him, but Douglas had belittled the soldiers and Julianna.
Hence, he had to lie in the bed he made.
As Frank watched the scene unfold, his depressed spirits lifted. He turned to Fabian and said, “Fabian,
it’s best not to interact with people like him in the future. It’s embarrassing for our family otherwise.”
“That’s right!” Cindy jeered.
The members of Fabian’s family were all grimacing. Even Julianna said to Scarlett, “Now you know that
Douglas wasn’t the one who made the call, right?”
“You—Even if Douglas wasn’t the one who made the call, your husband isn’t the one who made it
either. He’s just a veteran. Who the hell can he possibly know?” By that time, Scarlett’s face was
already as red as a tomato, for she had embarrassed herself thoroughly in front of Julianna.
She was most furious with Douglas, however, as the man had lied to her. If Douglas had told her about
the situation earlier, she would never have asked him to call his father.
If he had not called his father, she would have been able to have a quiet breakup with him after his
family went bankrupt. That way, she would not have embarrassed herself with Julianna around.
“I saw Mr. Cordrington’s car earlier, so could it be him?” Fabio hurriedly said when he saw a Mercedes-
Benz that looked like Jared’s car from a distance away.
“That’s enough. Let’s head home.” Fabian was no longer in the mood to continue with the topic. What
had happened earlier only made him feel livid. He felt disgraced after the sudden turn of events.
As Fabian turned and left, Fabio and the others hurried after him.
